Overview

Kist Medical College follows the innovative curriculum of the Institute of Medicine. The core philosophy of the curriculum is integrated basic medical science teaching-learning activities with community-based problem-oriented learning.

Kist Medical College (KISTMC) management has been able to successfully implement this complex curriculum in real practice. The calendar of operation with a daily routine is the landmark of success to create a serene academic environment. As the course has been presented in a structured manner, the first batch of MBBS students has been able to give excellent pass percentage results in the final University examination.

Candidates who have an interest in curing patients and thus serving mankind often take up the course of MBBS. The course is about four-and-a-half years followed by an internship of one year, which becomes five-and-a-half years. After earning the MBBS degree, one moves on to become a physician and can practice as a doctor anywhere in the country. The career is emotionally and intellectually rewarding.

Eligibility criteria for MBBS:

Pass 10+2 Science (Biology Group) or Equivalent securing at least 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with 50% aggregate in total marks  OR Secure the Percentage equivalent to above eligibility in regards to  A-Level program with different grading system.

Selection Procedure:

The first phase (2 years duration) covers basic clinical sciences including anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, forensic medicine, and community medicine. Part of community medicine continues in the second phase as well.

Curriculum Outline:

The clinical subjects, which include Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Ophthalmology, Anesthesia, Dentistry, radio diagnosis, Psychiatry, Dermatology, etc. along with Forensic Medicine is taught during the remaining two and half years. The teaching/learning activities of Community Medicine start from the first year and continue till the end of the course. One year compulsory rotating internship is mandatory for all the graduates after passing their final MBBS examination.

The medium of instruction of the course is English but it is necessary to learn Nepali in order to communicate with patients.
