Sunkoshi Rural Municipality (सुनकोशी गाउँपालिका, सिन्धुपाल्चोक) is located in the Sindhupalchok district of Bagmati province. While declaring this village municipality to be created with effect from 2073 Falgun 27, Thokarpa, Kalika, Yamunadanda, Sunkhani, Thumpakhar, and Pangretar VDCs were declared. Were merged in one place. At present, there are 7 wards in this village municipality. The area of ​​this village municipality is 72.84 sq. Km and according to the census of 2068 BS, the population is 16713. It is named after the Sunkoshi River that flows through this rural municipality.

With a population density of 238 per sq. Km., most of the villages cover water resources, tourism, agriculture, and trade. In addition, this village has a lot of potential in the coffee business. This village is mainly inhabited by Hindus and Buddhists. There is a predominance of Brahmin, Chhetri, and Tamang castes. Citizens have been embracing agriculture, animal husbandry, and trade as their main occupations since time immemorial.

Agricultural and livestock products produced here are mostly consumed and sold in the same market area. Geographically, this village has a hilly terrain and has very suitable places for human settlement and tourism business. It is named after the river Sunkoshi which flows through this village.

This rural municipality is a flower garden of different castes as Prithvinarayan Shah said. One of the other villages is Sunkoshi Gaupalika. There are 6 VDCs of former in this Sunkoshi rural municipality: Thokarpa, Kalika, Yamunadanda, Sunkhani, Thumpakhar. Adhering to the national norms, the same VDC of Savik has been given ward recognition and as it has grown, Thokarpa VDC has been made into two wards and Sunkoshi village municipality with 7 wards.

Social Development Policy of Sunkoshi Gaupalika:

  • Access to compulsory education will be ensured by conducting enrollment campaigns for all the children within this village municipality.
  • In order to make child education effective, the provision will be made to provide incentive allowance based on the number of children.
  • In order to make school education effective, internet connection and electronic attendance will be arranged in all basic and secondary schools. In addition, an incentive allowance of Rs. 1000 per month will be provided to the principals of each basic and secondary schools.
  • In order to build a model school in this village municipality area, necessary programs and plans including the construction of infrastructure will be made.
  • Training will be given at least one day a week by arranging sports coaches in each basic and secondary school.
  • Grants will be provided to the schools within the village municipality area which have less private resources to operate in a systematic manner.
  • One male and one female student from the schools within this Sunkoshi village municipality who bring excellent marks by participating in the School Entrance Examination (SEE) will be honored with Rs. 20,000 / 20,000 each.

  • A museum will be constructed by making a documentary to preserve the culture, costumes, and way of life of endangered Pahari, Thami and Majhi castes.
  • In order to maintain the identity, respect, and dignity of senior citizens, the senior citizen honor program will be taken forward.
  • Emphasis will be placed on the capacity building of women by discouraging violence against women.
  • Income-generating and Skilled-based programs will be implemented to create employment collectively for the capacity building of women. Preference will be given to women in the schemes run through the Consumer Committee.
  • Identity card distribution camp will be conducted to ensure social security by collecting accurate data of persons with disabilities.
  • For the motivation of children, children's clubs, children's networks will be formed, educational materials will be distributed in schools, uniforms will be distributed and additional activities will be conducted.
  • Teachers working in schools within the village municipality will be involved in high-level training.
  • Emphasizing on technical education, at least 500 unemployed youths will be encouraged to become self-reliant by providing ship-based training within 5 years.
  • At least two village level sports competitions will be organized under the slogan "Sports for Healthy Life".
  • If the players within this village municipality achieve excellent results in national and international sports competitions, they will be given due respect with an amount of Rs. 25,000. In addition, a sports ground will be constructed in Ward No. 3, Kalika Baghkhor.
  • Cash prizes and honors have been given to the renowned medal winners of national and international sports competitions. In addition, the said work will be continued.
  • Physical and financial assistance will be provided to the players in the close camp who have been selected in the national and international sports competitions. In addition, the necessary budget will be allocated for a cupboard hall for sports competitions within the VDC.
  • A program will be implemented to manage the social security allowance system and include the deprived citizens in this system.
  • Grants will be provided for the development of youth self-employment programs with 50/50 percent participation if agriculture, industry, and business are run collectively to help sustainable development by stopping the migration of young manpower and settling in the villages.
  • A necessary budget will be provided for the development and protection of religious tourism.
