Balen (Balendra) Shah, Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, has proposed to cooperate with Lalitpur Metropolitan City for the establishment of a Newa University related to civilization and the cleaning of Bagmati river.
In a program organized on Saturday on the occasion of the 104th foundation day of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality, he opined that cooperation is essential as Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality and Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality cannot do these two tasks alone.
Mayor Sah said that a university related to Newa is necessary to transfer the art, culture and civilization of the valley to the new generation and to internationalize it.
"Since Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality is a very old municipality, I would also like to request them to take initiative for a university related to our heritage, culture or civilization," he said in the program, "Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality and Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality can cooperate for that."
Newa: Saying that this work is also important for the documentation of civilization, Mayor Sah opined that the art skills here can be internationalized through the university. Mayor Sah also said that another important work to be done by both the metropolitan cities is the permanent cleaning of Bagmati.
There are many temporary cleaning campaigns. Both Kathmandu and Lalitpur metropolis should cooperate to clean it permanently. Kathmandu alone cannot do this work. Lalitpur can't do it alone' he said, 'We two metropolitan cities, Bagmati Civilization Integrated Project, Ministry of Urban Development should cooperate to make the water of Bagmati blue and clean water.'
Mayor Balen said that it would send a good message if the permanent cleaning of Newa University and Bagmati can be done during this term. He also said that the work done by the Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality in the preservation of ancient stone streams is worth learning.
