Odd-even Number Plate Rule system in Vehicles from Friday Night in Kathmandu Valley

A meeting of three chief district officers of Kathmandu Valley has decided to implement the Odd-even number plate rule system in vehicles from Friday night.

A new order has been issued at a joint meeting of CDOs of Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur districts due to the increase in coronavirus infection with new variants.

As new infections, including the new variant Omicron, are on the rise, standards have been set to make disease prevention and control more effective, according to chief district officials.

According to officials, the system will not apply to vehicles carrying medicines and health supplies, ambulances, fire engines, hearses, gas, petroleum products, vehicles carrying construction materials (driver and co-driver only), food and water vehicles.

Similarly, strict system has been implemented in vehicles carrying dairy products, fruits, vegetables, eggs, fish, poultry and agricultural and livestock products (driver and co-driver only), vehicles used by government employees, health workers, security personnel and employees of public institutions on the basis of identity card.

Vehicles used by employees of banks, insurance and financial institutions and airlines on the basis of such identity cards, vehicles used by journalists with journalist identity cards issued by the Department of Information and Broadcasting, government vehicles, vehicles of diplomatic missions will not be enforced.

Similarly, long distance public transport should be operated from start to finish without overcrowding, and details of passengers should be made available to District Covid 19 Crisis Management Center (DCCMC), long distance public transport passengers should be antigen tested as much as possible. It is mentioned that the hotels and restaurants operating on the highways will follow the public health norms and provide alternate services.
