TU Curriculum Development Centre Revokes Equivalence of 114 Nepali Students

The Curriculum Development Centre of Tribhuvan University has revoked the academic equivalence granted to 114 Nepali students who obtained degrees from various universities in India.

The equivalence was revoked for students who submitted questionable academic certificates from Sangai International University in Manipur, CMJ University in Meghalaya, Techno Global University and Pragyan International University in Jharkhand. Ratopati had previously published investigative reports raising questions about the degrees obtained from these universities and the equivalence granted in Nepal.

The TU Curriculum Development Centre had published a 35-day notice in Gorkhapatra seeking verification of the certificates of candidates who obtained degrees from these universities and were employed in government and private organisations.

None of the 98 people who received equivalence based on degree certificates from Sangai International University were able to submit the required evidence. Of the 16 people associated with CMJ University, only three submitted evidence and retained their equivalence, while the equivalence of the remaining 13 was revoked.

The decision was made under Regulation 21, concerning the cancellation of previous decisions, of the Tribhuvan University Degree Recognition and Equivalence Regulations, 2082. Regulation 21 allows equivalence to be revoked at any time when the information submitted by an applicant is found to be false, unlawful or insufficient for equivalence.

According to the source, India’s University Grants Commission removed Sangai International University from its list of universities through a public notice issued on 15 May 2024 and declared the academic degrees issued by the institution invalid for higher education and government employment.
