History and Establishment
The school was founded by the late Shatrughan Prasad Singh Yadav, a landowner and education donor from Bode Barsain. He established Chandra High English School on 14 Poush 2013 BS in memory of his mother, the late Chandrawati Yadav.
For the operation and development of the school, the founder donated 161 bighas, 3 kathas, and 6.5 dhurs of land. The foundation stones of two school buildings were laid by the then King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah during the school’s establishment-day program.
During its early years, the institution provided free education. This arrangement allowed children from families with limited financial resources to attend school. Ram Sakal Prasad Singh served as headteacher during the initial period, when a number of teachers from India were also involved in teaching.
The school attracted learners from different parts of Saptari and nearby areas. Students came from locations between the Koshi River in the east and the Kamala River in the west, as well as from places outside the district.
After the introduction of the New Education Plan in 2028 BS, the school began charging fees under the revised education policy. It also started receiving government support through sanctioned teaching positions and grants.
The school was declared a Model School in 2036 BS. It regained permanent approval for the secondary level in 2052 BS and introduced the 10+2 system in 2055 BS. These developments allowed students from Bode Barsain and surrounding communities to continue their education through Grade 12 without travelling far from home.
Computer Engineering was introduced in Grades 9–12 in 2072 BS under the technical and vocational education stream. The school has operated as a Model School under the Ministry of Education since 2074 BS and began offering Science in Grades 11 and 12 in 2080 BS.
