Location
Chandrodaya Secondary School is located in Bishaltar, Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-5, Dhading, Bagmati Province, Nepal. The school area is near Prithvi Highway and around the Trishuli River region.
The school is also described as being around 85 km from Kathmandu. Its location has been an important part of its development because the school shifted sites more than once before settling into its present institutional setting.
Establishment and Early History
Chandrodaya Secondary School was founded through the effort of local youth. At the time of establishment, permission to operate a primary school came through the Education Department from Nuwakot District, with an annual contribution of NRs. 600. Local people also contributed money to support school operations.
In its early years, the school was located in Benighat Bazar. Sanskrit, English, Mathematics, and Nepali were among the subjects taught at the beginning.
The school did not have a proper building in its earliest phase. Learning began in a shrine-like house with around 15 to 18 students. For several years, the school did not have stable land or permanent infrastructure and had to move from one place to another.
Development Over the Years
In 1965 A.D., the school shifted from Benighat Bazar to Bishaltar, above the current school location. This move gave the school its own premises. Later, when construction of the Prithvi Highway began, access became difficult for students, and the local community again considered a more accessible site.
In 1969, villagers agreed to shift the school to Bishaltar village, where the primary wing of Chandrodaya Secondary School now stands.
In 1977, the school became a Lower Secondary School. In 1979, the Management Committee found the location insufficient and built a new building in the western part of Bishaltar village, known as Baltar. Villagers from Benighat VDC, Dhusa VDC of Dhading district, and Ghyalchok VDC of Gorkha district contributed to the building and other required infrastructure.
The school later developed into a Secondary School. When the earlier infrastructure became weak, INGO Hanuman Onlus visited the school and supported the construction of a new building. A 12-room cemented building and toilet facility were built with support from Hanuman Onlus and C.O.Y.O.
In 2009, the school became a Higher Secondary School. Chandrodaya Multiple Campus was also established, where BBS and B.Ed. Programs are taught.
