Durga Bhawan Secondary School (दुर्गा भवन माध्यमिक विद्यालय, भुर्तुङ, गुल्मी) was established in 1957 AD (2014 B.S.) as a community-based educational institution. It is located in Bhurtung-5, Chapachaur, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Gulmi, Nepal.
The school is affiliated with the National Examination Board (NEB) and approved by the Ministry of Education. It offers academic programs from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 10 and Plus Two (Class 11 and 12) in Management and Education streams.
Durga Bhawan Secondary School provides accessible secondary education with a moderate fee structure. Scholarships are available for eligible and deserving students.
Shree Durga Bhawan Secondary School began in a two-room thatched hut under the name Nepal Rastriya Primary School in 2014 B.S. The school was founded through the dedicated efforts of social reformers and education supporters, especially Subedar Shakti Prachanda Hamal, along with the support of local representatives and residents.
On 11 Ashadh 2017 B.S., the Government of Nepal granted it permanent approval under the name Shree Durga Bhawan Primary School, Naya Gaun Chhapchaur.
On 15 Baishakh 2023 B.S., the school received temporary approval to operate at the lower secondary level, with the initiative of Subedar Bahadur Thapa.
It secured permanent lower secondary approval on 29 Chaitra 2025 B.S.
On 29 Poush 2034 B.S., temporary approval was granted for the secondary level under the leadership of Pradhanpanch Mr. Purna Bahadur Shah.
Permanent approval for secondary level was obtained on 19 Poush 2035 B.S.
In collaboration with community members, including Mr. Dhan Bahadur Kshetri, Mr. Raj Dhan Bahadur Kshetri, teachers, and education supporters, the school received affiliation from the Higher Secondary Education Board on 22 Shrawan 2065 B.S. for the Ten Plus Two (10+2) level.
In 2076 B.S., the school launched a technical education program in Crop Science under the Agriculture stream for Grade 9 (full marks 1000), with formal approval from the Ministry of Education.
