SOS Hermann Gmeiner Secondary School Sanothimi is situated about 10 km east of the centre of Kathmandu. The school is located in a calm environment in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, with greenery around the school area and views of the snowcapped mountains to the north.
The school is named after Prof. Hermann Gmeiner, the founding father of SOS Children’s Villages International. It is one of the ancillary facilities of SOS Children’s Village Nepal and has a strong connection with the child-care and education mission of SOS Children’s Villages.
The school began as an elementary school with 75 students, most of whom were children from SOS Children’s Village Sanothimi. Until 1989 A.D., it operated as a lower secondary school. Its first batch appeared in the SLC Examination in 1991 A.D. Since 1998 A.D., the school has been running Grade XI and XII classes with a focus on science education.
The school now operates as a full secondary school with nearly 1,000 students from Nursery to Grade XII and about 70 teaching and non-teaching staff members.
