Beware of Misleading Information - NTA:

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has urged people to be vigilant, saying that false and misleading messages have been transmitted and disseminated to customers using the network of mobile service providers. The NTA said in a statement today that "serious attention has been paid to misleading information and that action will be taken against those who spread the information."

A few days ago, various people spread information on the Short Message Service (Mobile SMS) and social media saying that the rate of coronavirus infection has increased and that a curfew and emergency is being declared in Dashain. The NTA has instructed mobile service providers to remain vigilant, saying misleading information has flowed in the name of the home ministry.

The statement issued by the NTA states, "Section (3) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 states that if a person misuses the telecommunications service, uses it unauthorisedly or damages any property related to the telecommunications service, the NTA may recover compensation from such person and impose a penalty according to compensation.".
