Internet users in Nepal

Mobile Broadband Internet Users in Nepal:

The rate of using the internet (broadband) through mobile data is high in Nepal. According to the October MIS (Management Information System) report released by the Telecommunications Authority of Nepal (NTA), there are 239.21 million broadband internet users in Nepal.

About a quarter of users use mobile data and the rest use broadband internet through fixed means. According to the NTA, there are 1,75,75,419 people using the internet from mobile data. According to statistics, there are 6.345 million 761 people using fixed internet. Of these, 61,19,099 use broadband with the help of wires, while 2,26,662 use wireless broadband without wires.

Of the broadband users, 73 percent are mobile, 26 percent are fixed wire and 1 percent are fixed wireless. NTA spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal said that many people use the internet from mobile data due to easy technology and mobility. Recently, the number of smartphone users has also increased in Nepal. The Internet can be easily accessed on a smartphone.

Aryal said, ‘I bought a SIM, turned on the data and the internet started working. Necessary infrastructure has not been developed in Nepal to increase the use of fixed internet. Due to geographical complexity and high cost, fiber service has not been able to expand in many hilly and mountainous districts. Even technically, it is easy to use the internet using mobile data. '

‘Mobile tower coverage is high. Mobile data can be used anywhere at home and abroad, 'said Aryal, adding that' fiber internet has to be operated from a certain location. ' Fiber internet is cheaper for consumers than mobile data. Data can be used wherever there is a mobile network. He said that the number of fiber internet users has been increasing in the Terai and urban areas recently.

Only three companies are providing mobile internet service in Nepal. These are Ncell, Smart, and Nepal Telecom. Nepal Telecom has many mobile internet users. Telecom's share is more than 60 percent. The number of telecom users is 1,619,143. Ncell has 67,056,515 and Smart has 1,99,761. Ncell and Smart have only mobile internet, while Nepal Telecom also has ADSL, FTTH, internet lease line, and WiMAX service.

Among the mobile data users, 4G users are 6332,194 and the most 3G users are 111,062,652.

Of the 4G subscribers, more than 4 million have subscribed to Ncell, and 1,99,761 have subscribed to Smart. The rest use Nepal Telecom's 4G service. Similarly, more than 8.432 million of the 3G internet users are Nepal Telecom customers and the rest are Ncell users.

Nepal Telecom is also at the forefront of Internet users in Nepal. One crore 19 lakh 33 thousand 955 people use the internet from NTC. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have 5 million 30 thousand 949 users. ISPS and Fix One Internet are considered to have four users.

Nepal Telecom's fixed internet has been connected to 1.314 million 812 places. ISPS has been connected to 1.3 million 124 places.

Similarly, NTA data shows that 80 percent of Nepalese have access to the Internet. The NTA has been considering the speed of 512 kbps in rural areas and 10 Mbps in urban areas as broadband internet.

The authority has calculated this by considering wireless technology, cable, fiber internet, and NTC's 3G and 4G as broadband internet.
