Consultant Microbiologist Vacancy Notice – NPHL, Teku Kathmandu
Government of Nepal, Ministry of Health and Population, National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL), Teku, Kathmandu, Application Notice for Contract Service Position.
With financial and technical support from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), applications are invited from eligible candidates for the post of Consultant Microbiologist (Level 9 or equivalent) under the National Integrated Influenza and SARS-COV2 Program at the National Public Health Laboratory, Teku, Kathmandu.
Major Responsibilities

Perform laboratory tests related to Influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and other viruses. Testing must follow WHO standards and reporting protocols.

Ensure compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) in all lab procedures, including testing, storage, archiving, reporting, inventory management, and documentation.

Ensure the National Influenza Centre (NIC) Laboratory maintains WHO proficiency across all benchmarks.

Evaluate specimen conditions accurately and take corrective actions as required; report daily activities to the Unit Head.

Monitor and supervise the inventory team for test kits and test quality, offering supportive supervision where necessary.

Conduct quality checks to ensure the lab remains accredited under ISO 15189:2022 standards.

Verify patient reports post-sample aliquoting, extraction, and PCR testing.

Organize, manage, and participate in activities under the National Integrated Program for Influenza and SARS-COV2.

Support training programs, workshops, and meetings.

Validate and report on newly received test kits.

Prepare and submit reports for outbreak investigations.

Conduct genomic sequencing of COVID-19 and Influenza, and prepare corresponding line lists.

Perform molecular testing related to the integrated program.

Participate in external quality control programs.
