Peace Corps Nepal VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Vacancy It 19-03 - (2 positions)

The United States Peace Corps Nepal seeks experienced and qualified applicants for the two full-time Personal Service Contractor positions as mentioned below.

1. Senior Language and Cultural Facilitator

2.  Driver

3. Senior Language and Cultural Facilitator (SLCF), Personal Services Contractor working 40 hours per week

Under the direct supervision of the Training Manager (TM), the SLCF expands the Nepali language and cross-cultural skills of Peace Corps Volunteers (PCVs) and Peace Corps Trainees (PCTs) by providing language and cross-cultural classes/tutorials to PCVs/PCTs to improve their language and cross-cultural skills. The SLCF will work with individual PCVs at their sites, in other locations, and at training as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • University Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Good command of written and spoken English
  • At least two years of training experience in teaching Nepali language and culture
  • Sound knowledge of Nepali language, culture, traditions/values/customs and practices of the ethnic diversities of Nepal
  • Must have training session facilitation experience
  • Must have computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Must be willing to live outside of Kathmandu for 13 to 15 weeks each year and travel up to 50% of the remaining 39-41 weeks of the year
  • Must meet US Embassy security clearance requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience working with foreigners and/or Volunteers in Nepal; Ability to type in the Nepali language; Certified Nepali Language proficiency tester; Knowledge of other languages spoken in Nepal.

Driver, Personal Services Contractor working 48 hours per week

Under the supervision of the General Services Manager, the Driver operates a motor vehicle to transport passengers and cargo. The driver is expected to provide services in the area of logistic support, and will also be required to perform manual labor and other administrative activities when not driving. Overnight travel outside the Kathmandu valley is required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Minimum of 5 years of work experience as a driver of various types of vehicles
  • Driving License category A and B with a clean record
  • Completion of Secondary School
  • Level II (Working knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English and Level IV (fluent) speaking/ reading/writing Nepali
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of local traffic laws and regulations
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of Kathmandu and roads in the country
  • Must have the ability to detect the malfunction, recommend servicing or repair of the vehicle, and provide basic vehicle maintenance. Must be able to accurately
  • maintain vehicle logs
  • Ability to make rapid and sound decisions on weather and road conditions for countryside travel to ensure the safety of passengers
  • Must have good knowledge of locations of NGOs, other offices and Ministries of the host government
  • Must pass annual physical exam determining fitness for duty as required by Peace Corps and U.S. Mission
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must meet US Embassy security clearance requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Working experience with American or International Organization is highly preferable. Level III (good knowledge) speaking/reading/writing English; basic computer skills; ability to get to the office quickly after normal work hours and in emergency situations; advanced knowledge of vehicle maintenance; possess motorcycle.
