Teachers Service Commission of Nepal

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC - Shikshak Sewa Aayog) has decided to expedite the recruitment process of new teachers within the first week of Ashoj. The process of filling up the posts of teachers will be taken forward by recruiting around 15,000 new manpower in the teaching profession.

Madhu Regmi, the newly-appointed chairperson of the Teachers' Service Commission, said that they have moved ahead to fill the new posts of teachers by the first week of Ashoj.

The Commission has requested the Education and Human Resource Development Center to update the details of vacancies in public schools across the country to take the recruitment process forward.

Although the Center has sent the details of the vacant teachers to the Teachers Service Commission till mid-April, the commission has stated that it has been asked to add the latest details as well. Following the request of the commission, the center has sent a circular to the district education development and coordination unit to send the vacant details by the next Bhadra 10.

Chairman Regmi informed that the Commission has received the details of 12,000 vacancies till mid-April. As teachers retire every day, the commission estimates that up to 15,000 teachers may be vacant.

These vacancies will now be filled at the primary, lower secondary, and secondary levels of public schools. After four years, a new teacher is being filled in the teaching service.

Earlier, the commission had filled the post of a new teacher in 2074 BS. As there is no need to manage temporary teachers this time, all the posts will be filled openly.

Although the constitution defines Nepal's school-level education system as a basic and secondary level, legally, school teacher vacancies are still being filled in a traditional way. According to the old law, the process of filling up the posts of teachers at the pre-primary, lower secondary and upper secondary levels will be expedited, said Chairman Regmi.

According to the commission, advertisements will be made for the district level of pre-primary level and the provincial level of lower and upper secondary level teachers. The subject matter is advertised at the lower and upper secondary level, while the subject is not separated at the primary level.

Meanwhile, the commission is preparing to conduct the examination of teacher license within the month of August. In order to make it easier for new manpower to enter the teaching profession, the examination of teacher's license has been taken.

There is a provision that the candidate must have passed the teacher license examination for the post of permanent teacher to be conducted by the Teacher Service Commission. In order to make it easier for the new manpower to enter the service, it is planned to fill the new post of the teacher only after first examining the teacher's license, said Chairman Regmi.

Licenses will be distributed at Primary Level, Lower Secondary Level, and Secondary Level. The examination of the teacher's license will be conducted in the physical presence of the examinee. It is said that the decision about the test should be made based on the latest stage of coronavirus infection. The condition of testing through technology has not been developed yet. This issue is being discussed in the commission.

Meanwhile, the commission is going to take forward the promotion process of about 3,000 teachers. The commission has received details that 2,700 teachers should be promoted. The commission estimates that the number will increase to around 3,000 when the data from mid-April last year is added.

Chairman Regmi clarified that the main responsibility of the commission is to make recommendations for the recruitment of new teachers, promotion of teachers, and conduct license examination of teachers.
