  • Job title: National Consultant - Harmful Practices Specialist

Key responsibilities:

The selected individual consultant is expected to complete a desk review of relevant harmful practices in Nepal, as a basis for the Harmful Practices Working Group to decide on what practices will be included in the study. The consultant would be expected to travel to two to three targeted communities, where the identified practices are a part of daily life, and work with community members to understand the practices from an anthropological perspective.

On the basis of this study, the consultant will develop a questionnaire and focus group discussion guidelines, to be used during the community perception survey that will enable the Project to produce evidence, from a community perspective, that will improve the understanding of harmful practices across Nepal, and their impact on development outcomes.

Required qualification and experience:

Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Anthropology, Sociology or another relevant social sciences discipline. More than 7 years' relevant experience working in Social Sciences for development. Demonstrated experience with work in harmful practices in Nepal. Proven experience in developing and implementing research processes using a range of research methodologies. Proven experience of networking and collaborating across teams to achieve strategic outcomes. Knowledge of local languages from Central Tarai or Far Western Nepal an asset. Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills in English and good knowledge of computer applications: statistical analysis, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.

Key responsibilities: Carry out strategic result communication of the project targeting public audience, the government and donor stakeholders by generating a high-quality human story, press releases, case studies, good practices and advocacy documents; designing infographics and other visual items for reporting based on the data collected through the project and effectively utilize social media outlet; support the project management team in production of quality IEC materials and other communication resources for the beneficiaries; ensure the visibility of the project to wider audience through effective communication and coordination at national and local level as well as within the project components.

Required qualification and experience:

Completion of Bachelor's degree in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, International Relations, International Development, Marketing or another related field. At least 3 years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas:

journalism, public relations, advocacy, international relations, marketing, development, advertising, digital communications, multimedia agencies, or another relevant field; experience in media relations using traditional and social media, multi-media and a variety of platforms.

Key responsibilities:

Support to maintain relationships with relevant government line agencies and stakeholders at the district level; document the evidences (socio-technical suggestions, photographs, etc.) of household receiving socio-technical support from Awas Nirman Sathi (ANS) and technical team; collect qualitative/quantitative data and records of beneficiaries receiving livelihood support, government exposure visit, media visit, formation of Disaster Management Committees and different meetings/workshops through consultative approaches; ensure quality documentation and reports are completed on time.

Required qualification and experience:

Completion of Bachelor's degree in any discipline, preferably Management, Sociology, Statistics, Rural Development and Social Works from the recognized university or institution. At least 3 years of relevant work experience in the development field in JINGO; excellent report writing skill in English & Nepali; good experience of data analysis by using the computer software.
