Value Chain Development of Fruit and Vegetables in Nepal Project

The Value Chain Development of Fruit and Vegetables in Nepal Project, focuses on increasing production, reducing postharvest losses and promoting market linkages. Led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Land Management and Cooperatives (MoALMC), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), and United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the 5-year project aims to increase incomes for smallholder farmers growing fruit and vegetables. It will target two road corridors (the B.P. and Arniko highway and the Kathmandu-Pokhara highway) in provinces 3 and 4. About 10,000 farmers and 20 cooperatives will be beneficiaries

The project is seeking applications from qualified, talented and result oriented Nepalese citizens for the following positions:

Post Title: Horticulture Specialist           

  • Contract Type: NIM Staff Contract

  • Duty Station: Kathmandu with frequent travel to project areas

Job responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the National Project Director and National Project Manager, the Horticulture Specialist is responsible for: supporting the improvement of the physical facility at the postharvest laboratory at the Horticulture Research Division, in collaboration with the various potential partners, planning and implementing the provision of extension of existing postharvest technology at cooperatives and farmers' levels; supporting the preparation of training materials and manuals for technology transfer for newly developed technologies.

Qualifications and experience required:

Master's degree in Agriculture or equivalent with special preference for Horticulture. At least 5 years of experience in the field of agriculture value chain, postharvest technology for fruits and vegetables, and extension provision; sound understanding of agriculture policies and agriculture research and extension systems of Nepal; ability to manage and supervise a team of multidisciplinary professionals.

Post Title: Technology Extension Specialist

Job responsibilities:

 Under the guidance of the National Project Director and National Project Manager, the Technology Extension Specialist is responsible for: supporting the preparation of training materials & extension manuals; organizing the training programmes on production technology and improved production practices to all relevant partners; assisting in the development of manuals on technology and extension materials.

Qualifications and experience required:

Master's degree in Agriculture (Extension, Agricultural Economics or Agribusiness Management) or relevant field. At least 5 years of experience in the field of agriculture value chain, extension provision, and fruits and vegetable production technology; sound understanding of agriculture policies and agriculture research and extension systems of Nepal; ability to manage and supervise a team of multidisciplinary professionals.

Post Title: Marketing and Value Chain Specialist

Job responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the National Project Director and National Project Manager, the Marketing and Value Chain Specialist is responsible for: preparing and implementing the physical support provision to collection centers and satellite markets; supporting the provision of postharvest handling and marketing of fruits and vegetables to operators of collection centers and satellite markets; supporting in the assessment of capacity and need of the cooperatives and collection centers; planning and managing the implementation of learning programmes on collection center management and marketing.

Qualifications and experience required:

Master's degree in Agriculture (Agricultural Economics or Agribusiness Management) or relevant field. At least 5 years of working experience in the field of agriculture value chain, market linkage, marketing, and collection center management; sound understanding of agricultural policies and agriculture research and extension systems of Nepal; ability to manage and supervise a team of multidisciplinary professionals.

Post Title: Administration Assistant

Job responsibilities:

Under the supervision and guidance of the National Project Manager and Administration and Finance Officer the Administration Assistant will be responsible for general project administration; management of day-to-day office activities; and liaison with counterparts. S/he will provide comprehensive secretarial support to the project senior staff, including drafting correspondence, taking of minutes, arranging and organizing the project events, making travel arrangements and related tasks.

Qualifications and experience required:

Intermediate level in business administration or relevant field. Bachelor's degree will be preferable. At least 5 years of work experience in the relevant field; experience in providing administrative support for the project implementation.
