Purnahira Secondary School, located in Lakshmana of Bansgadhi Municipality–8, has celebrated its annual festival in a grand manner. During the program held on Friday on the occasion of the school’s 38th annual festival, students presented awareness-based dramas and dances.
Participants in the ceremony extended best wishes, stating that local resident Binodraj Gyawali had made significant contributions through support and cooperation in helping the school reach its current stage.
Principal Gopal Subedi said the school family was pleased to be celebrating the 38th annual festival while overcoming various obstacles and challenges. He added that the school still faces several challenges.
“There are still many challenges,” Principal Subedi said. “The attraction towards technical education is gradually decreasing, and how to increase it is a challenge for us.”
He further shared that teacher management is another issue at the school. Principal Subedi expressed concern that the school is facing difficulties in paying salaries to six teachers hired through school resources. Due to shortages, the school has also been unable to operate technology-friendly classrooms.
Currently, 619 students are enrolled in the general stream, while 19 students are studying in the technical stream.
Background of the School Establishment
The school was established as Purnahira Primary School on Magh 09, 2044, on the day of Basanta Panchami. The name “Purnahira” was formed from the names of the mothers of the school’s founder, late Hemraj Gyawali, and Dinanath Gyawali. Hemraj Gyawali’s mother was named Purna Kumari, while Dinanath Gyawali’s mother was named Hira.
The notice also mentions that a library was established in Kakoura through the initiative of late Hemraj Gyawali.
Efforts to Develop as a Model School
Ward Chairperson of Bansgadhi Municipality–8, Tul Prasad Gautam, stated that efforts are being made to develop this school into a model school of the municipality.
From a Hut to a Leading School
Chairperson of the School Management Committee, Dinanath Gyawali, said he felt satisfied that the school, which began from a hut, is now recognized as one of the best in the municipality.
“In the past, there was no school in the village, and small children were forced to cross a big canal to go to Kakoura for studies,” Chairperson Gyawali said. “Later, my brother and I established a school in the village in the names of our mothers so that village children could have a learning environment.”

The annual festival program organized by the school was attended by Mayor of Bansgadhi Municipality Khadak Bahadur Khadka, Deputy Mayor Indira Chaudhary, School Management Committee Chairperson Dinanath Gyawali, Binodraj Gyawali, President of Nepal Journalists Federation Bardiya Nirmal Ghimire, along with students, teachers, guardians, and officials of the School Management Committee.
