Nerpa Sports Club Wins Prabhuram Rai Cup–2082 Title

Nerpa Sports Club has won the title of the highest prize-money football tournament held so far in Khotang.

Nerpa clinched the trophy of the “Prabhuram Rai Cup–2082” invitational football tournament organized at Buipa in Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality–14.

In Sunday’s final, Nerpa defeated Gachhiya Yuwa Samaj, Morang in a penalty shootout to secure the championship. Nerpa received a cash prize of NPR 300,000 along with a trophy, medals, and certificates.

The match ended 1–1 in regular time. In the penalty shootout, Nerpa won 5–4.

Gachhiya Yuwa Samaj, who finished as runners-up, received NPR 151,000 in cash along with a trophy, medals, and certificates. The semi-finalists, organizer Buipa–11 Sports Club and Rarambu Sports Club, received NPR 50,000 each along with medals and certificates.

The invitational tournament, held at Yalamber Playground in Buipa, featured the participation of 10 teams. The competition was organized by Buipa–11 Sports Club, Buipa, with sponsorship from the family of 82-year-old Prabhuram Rai, a permanent resident of Buipa, in his honor.

The tournament was inaugurated on Magh 7 by Kiran Rai, General Secretary of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA).

Individual Awards

The Most Valuable Player award went to Nerpa Sports Club’s Salin Dhakal “Ram,” who received NPR 20,000 along with a trophy, medals, and a certificate.

According to the organizers, the following awards were also presented with NPR 15,000 each along with a trophy, medals, and certificates:

  • Top Scorers (5 goals each): Biki Chamling (Nerpa Sports Club) and Mikchen Das (Gachhiya Yuwa Samaj)

  • Best Goalkeeper: Rohan Pariyar (Nerpa)

  • Best Defender: Ramsur Rai (Buipa)

  • Best Midfielder: Yona Limbu (Gachhiya)

  • Emerging Player: Alan Rai (Buipa)

  • Best Forward: Rohan Gurung (Gachhiya)

  • Best Coach: Digendra Gurung (Nerpa)

Prize Distribution and Purpose of the Tournament

The cash prizes were distributed to the winning clubs and players by sponsor Prabhuram Rai and his wife Sita Rai.

Dinesh Rai, the eldest son of Prabhuram Rai and Ward Chairperson of Buipa, said the invitational men’s football tournament was organized to honor his father, who has been engaged in social service as well as the overall development of the sports sector, with the aim of producing national-level football players from the district.

He further stated that the family members organized the invitational men’s football tournament in honor of Prabhuram Rai, who served as the Pradhan Panch of the then Buipa Village Panchayat and is also a former British Gurkha soldier, in recognition of his contribution.
