The Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) is organizing the first-ever "Kukur Tihar Reel Contest 2026" to promote Nepal's tourism and culture worldwide through digital platforms.

According to the Board, the competition is being organized under the direction of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadga Raj Paudel.

In Nepali tradition, dogs are regarded as symbols of loyalty, protection, and affection. On the second day of Tihar, known as Kukur Tihar, people worship dogs, offer them special food, and place garlands around their necks.

The main objective of the competition is to introduce international audiences to the close relationship between dogs and humans and the distinctive cultural traditions of Nepal through digital content.

Previously, under Minister Paudel's direction, traditional bamboo swings (Linge Ping) were installed at 100 locations across the country during the Dashain festival in collaboration with local governments and tourism-related organizations.
