Overview

Karnali Pradesh – Karnali Province (Nepali: कर्णाली प्रदेश) was established in 2018 formed by Constitution of Nepal (2015). It is one of the 7 federal provinces (Pradesh) of Nepal. The total area of the Karnali Pradesh is 24,453 square kilometers (9,441 square meters). The population of the province was 1,570,418 (2011 Nepal census). The estimated population of this Province was 1,701,800 On 1 January 2016.

Originally, Karnali Pradesh was known as Province No. 6. The elected Provincial Assembly; adopted Karnali Pradesh (Karnali Province) as the permanent name for the province in February 2018. It borders Gandaki Pradesh to the east, Sudurpashchim Pradesh to the west, Tibet Autonomous Region of China to the north and Province No. 5 to the south. The capital city of Karnali Pradesh is located in Birendranagar, Which was declared as a capital city in January 2018.

Geography:

Karnali is the largest Pradesh of Nepal with an area of 24,453 Kilometers (9,441 square meters), however, the population of this province is very low. The population of the province is 1,701,800 (estimated on 1 January 2016, which is lowest in ranking.

The most the geographical area of this province has occupied higher mountains land (north part) and mid-hills. There are three mountains in the north of this province such as Changla, Kanjiroba and Kubi Gangri. The Rara lake is the largest lake of Nepal and Shey Phoksundo National Park with Phoksundo lake is the largest national park of Nepal; which are located in Karnali Pradesh. Karnali River is the biggest and longest river of Nepal. Bheri River and Seti River are tributaries of Karnali.
