Devchuli Hospital to Operate a Teaching Hospital From Next Year
A community naturopathy hospital located in Devchuli, Nawalpur, has announced that it will operate a teaching hospital starting next year. The hospital’s Managing Director, Hari Sapkota, said the teaching hospital will begin operations next year after obtaining affiliation from Pokhara University, and will provide education in naturopathy science.
Sapkota said preparations are being advanced to operate the teaching hospital from the upcoming academic session as a joint constituent campus of Pokhara University. On the recommendation of the Medical Education Commission, the Government of Nepal had published a notice in the Nepal Gazette on 2082 Jestha 28, allowing Bachelor in Naturopathy and Yoga Science (BNYS) classes to be conducted in Nepal.
Hospital Chairperson Pradeepraj Ghimire said that after provisions were made to operate BNYS classes in Nepal, the hospital accelerated its work to launch the teaching hospital.
Ghimire stated that the hospital has completed the necessary preparations and, as both the university and the Medical Education Commission are positive, the course will begin from next year.
“Every year, thousands of students from Nepal go to India to study naturopathy. If a teaching hospital starts here, academic manpower related to naturopathy will be produced within the country, and the outflow of money will stop,” Ghimire said.
Managing Director Sapkota said that since naturopathy science has not been taught in Nepal so far, the hospital has taken the initiative to operate a teaching hospital. According to him, work is in its final stage, including establishing 14 different departments required for the teaching hospital and constructing physical infrastructure such as a hostel.
Sapkota said the Government of Nepal has already granted usufruct rights over 10 bigha of land used by the hospital in the hospital’s name, and a process is being moved forward through the Ministry of Health to obtain additional nearby public land.
He added that construction work is being accelerated so that from the upcoming Asar, treatment can be provided on a residential basis to 300 patients.
Using a budget of Rs. 12 crore 46 lakh allocated by the National Planning Commission through a special grant, construction of the hospital building and the teaching hospital building has reached the final stage. For the teaching hospital, the institution has assigned Professor Devibhakta Dhakal the responsibility of Campus Chief.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the hospital gained recognition as one of the country’s best isolation facilities. Based on naturopathy science, this hospital provides treatment without medicine through methods such as soil, water, air, fire, water, along with herbs, scientific massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy, yoga, and meditation practices.
