Tribhuvan University Publishes Revised Academic Calendar for 2082

Tribhuvan University (TU) has released its revised annual academic calendar for the academic year 2082, covering various institutes and faculties at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The calendar, approved and implemented by the TU Executive Council, was recently made public after the earlier version was disrupted due to the ongoing agitation led by the “Gen Z Group,” which caused delays and uncertainty in the university’s operations.

Undergraduate Level (Annual System)

According to the newly issued schedule, classes for first-year undergraduate students under the annual system will begin in Mangsir 2082. TU plans to complete the fourth-year classes by Mangsir 2085, ensuring that the results are published within Chaitra 2085.

Currently, undergraduate programs under the annual system run for four years. Based on the revised plan, TU faces the challenge of completing the four-year program within three years for the newly admitted students. The schedule also indicates that the second- and third-year classes will be completed in a relatively shorter time frame.

Undergraduate Level (Semester System)

For programs conducted under the semester system, the first semester of the undergraduate level will also start from Mangsir 2082. All affiliated institutes and campuses must complete entrance examinations and admission processes by Kartik 2082.

Students admitted in Mangsir will sit for their first semester examinations in Chaitra 2082, with results expected by Ashar 2083. TU has also stated that make-up (back) examinations will be held within two months after the publication of regular exam results.

Postgraduate Level (Semester System)

According to the new calendar, applications for admission to the first semester of the postgraduate level will open in Mangsir 2082, followed by entrance examinations in Poush 2082. Classes for the first semester are scheduled to begin in Magh 2082, and the first semester examinations will be held in Ashar 2083.

Similarly, TU has planned to conduct and complete the fourth semester classes and examinations at the postgraduate level, with the results to be published by Mangsir 2084.

Exam Results Timeline

Under the new academic framework, results for subjects conducted under the annual system must be published within three months after the completion of examinations. In the past, TU had faced repeated criticism for publishing results long after exams were completed.

Impact of Gen Z Group Agitation

The university stated that due to the disruption caused by the Gen Z Group’s agitation, it was forced to revise the academic calendar. The protests led to the postponement of several examinations scheduled under both the annual and semester systems.

As a result, TU could not conduct entrance examinations for new admissions at the undergraduate level on time. Similarly, several ongoing examinations for different semesters and years at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels were halted.

During the agitation, incidents such as arson at police posts also led to the burning of answer sheets for certain completed exams. Those subjects will have to be re-examined. The entrance examinations for first-year undergraduate admissions were also delayed.

According to Prof. Dr. Khadga K.C., Dean of Tribhuvan University, all academic activities will now be carried out in accordance with the newly issued academic calendar.
