Duhun Rural Municipality Scholarship Program

Duhun Rural Municipality of Darchula has been providing scholarships to local students to study medicine and engineering. The municipality covers 50 percent of the total expenses as a scholarship.

This program was initiated after Narendra Bahadur Singh Badal was elected as Chairperson in 2079 B.S. and has been regularly implemented since 2080 B.S. So far, eight students from Duhun have received scholarships and are studying MBBS, BE Civil, and BE Computer Engineering.

According to the rule, students who receive the scholarship must serve in the rural municipality for at least one year after completing their studies.

Parents have expressed that the scholarship has made education more affordable. Bhagwati Badal, a guardian, said it became easier to educate her son Bhupendra when the municipality agreed to provide a scholarship of NPR 425,000 out of the total NPR 850,000 required for his engineering studies.

Continuing to invest in education, the rural municipality has made education up to Grade 10 completely free. In addition, Duhun Rural Municipality has been running a residential orphanage for orphan children, providing food, clothing, and education.

Under the program "Orphan Children, Supported by the Rural Municipality," 12 boys and 3 girls are currently studying in the residential orphanage school.
