Mayor Scholarship Program Launched in Ramgram Municipality

Ramgram Municipality of West Nawalparasi has launched the Mayor Scholarship Program targeting underprivileged and meritorious students within the municipality.

Under this initiative, 250 students will receive free education from Grade 4 to Grade 11 across 23 private schools.

According to Mayor Dhanpat Yadav, the program was implemented in the current academic session following an agreement between the Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and the municipality.

He stated that this initiative has encouraged private schools to fulfill their social responsibility.

Transparent Selection from 750 Applicants

A total of 750 students had applied for the scholarship. Based on the standards set by the municipality, an exam was conducted, and students from poor, marginalized, and martyr families, as well as those with exceptional academic merit, were selected.

Certificates and educational materials were distributed to the selected students during a program.

Mayor Yadav clarified that rumors about weakening community schools were baseless and expressed his commitment to continuing the program.

Support from Municipality and PABSON Representatives

Deputy Mayor Samjhana Chaudhary remarked that the initiative demonstrated that even children from poor families can access private education.

Baliram Yadav, Chair of PABSON Ramgram, mentioned that this support is part of private schools’ contribution to the municipality’s educational reform campaign.

Similarly, PABSON Central Advisor Suman Gopal Acharya emphasized the need to focus more on improving the quality of education in community schools.

According to Municipal Education Officer Sundar Khanal, the selection process was transparent and strictly based on set criteria, ensuring that deserving students received the opportunity.
