QiMET International Application Call For Hybrid International Fellowship in Gastroenterology (Hi-Gastro) Fourth Batch

This is a call for application for International Fellowship in Gastroenterology, for the year 2024.

This is an international opportunity to do a Fellowship in Gastroenterology through QiMET International (QI). QI stands for ‘Quality improvement Medical Education and Training’ International and is a Medical Workforce Development organisation that seeks to provide a “Hybrid” Clinical and Leadership Education and Training programme for doctors seeking to develop their career in Gastroenterology and other clinical specialties.  After a series of talks and initial meetings in November 2017, QI developed and implemented the International Fellowship in Gastroenterology in 2021.

COURSE OVERVIEW:

The Hybrid International Gastroenterology (HI-GASTRO) Training is a 4-year academic program.

The first 18 months of the training will be in Nepal. The next 2 years of training will be in Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospital (DBTH), UK. The last 6 months of the training will be in Nepal.

Trainees will follow the Royal College of Physician (RCP) curriculum, RCP portfolio, and F. Res (Fellowship in Research) modules as part of the training. The Trainees are also required to write a 10,000 word Thesis to QiMET International. At the end of 4 years, the trainee will receive an International Fellowship in Gastroenterology and an F.RES from QiMET International.

The International Fellowship in Gastroenterology will be awarded by QIMET international and DBTH. The degree of F. RES will be awarded by QiMET International.

The trainee will go to DBTH, UK through the Medical Training Initiative (MTI) Pathway. 

FELLOWSHIP RECOGNITION:

  • Royal College of Physicians, UK supports this Fellowship in Gastroenterology. 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: 

  • MD Degree in Internal Medicine, registered in Nepal Medical Council.

  • Doctors with an MBBS degree with at least one year of experience as a Medical Officer and additionally, should have passed MRCP Part One Exam.
  • Post internship, the applicants should have had continuous clinical practice with not more than 28 continuous days of work experience break until the date of HIEM exam application.
  • Applicants will have to pass CEE Exam of Medical Education Commission (MEC) of Nepal within one year of joining the HI-GASTRO Program.
  • Those who have ever attempted/passed PLAB are not eligible for this exam. 

OF SEATS: TWO 

  1. TRAINEE SELECTION & RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
  • You will have to pass the HI-GASTRO Entrance exam conducted by QiMET International.
  • You will have to work as a HI-Gastro International Training Registrar (ITR) in the Department of Gastroenterology before going to UK.
  • During this period, you will have to pass OET exam with at least Grade ‘B”, in each testing area(speaking, listening, reading and writing) of the Occupational English Test (OET)-medicine version. You will have to undertake ACLS/BCLS training, complete the RCP portfolio, pass ARCP (Annual Review of Competency Progression) and complete the MTI process.
  • Subsequent to completion of the aforementioned process, you will continue your next 2 years of training in in DBTH, UK.

  2. FOR CANDIDATE WITH MD IN INTERNAL MEDICINE:
  • TRAINING FEES 1ST  INSTALLMENT:  Nineteen lakh Nepali Rupees (One lakh Admission Fee & 5 Lakhs Refundable Deposit is included in this instalment)

TRAINING FEES 2nd INSTALLMENT:  Fourteen Lakhs Nepali Rupees                   

  1. FOR CANDIDATE WITH MBBS & MRCP PART 1 PASS:
  • TRAINING FEES 1ST  INSTALLMENT  :  Fifteen lakh Nepali Rupees (One lakh Admission Fee & 5 Lakhs Refundable Deposit is included in this instalment)
  • TRAINING FEES 2nd INSTALLMENT: Fourteen Lakhs ninety thousand nine hundred eighty Nepali Rupees
  • STIPEND IN NEPAL:
  1. FOR CANDIDATE WITH MD IN INTERNAL MEDICINE: 
  • The trainee will receive a stipend money of forty five thousand Nepali Rupees per month.
  1. FOR CANDIDATE WITH MBBS & MRCP PART 1 PASS:
  • The trainee will receive a stipend of 19,000 NRS (NRS Eighteen Thousand) per month during the first 18 months.
  • STIPEND IN UK:
  • The trainee will receive a stipend of at least thirty eight thousand seven hundred and forty six pounds per annum during the training period in UK.
  1. COURSE START DATE: The HI-GASTRO training program will commence from March 1, 2024 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA OF APPLYING MTI APPLICATION TO CONTINUE UK TRAINING:

  1. Have completed at least 3 years postgraduate experience, including an internship, one year experience as medical officer and minimum one-year training (HI-GASTRO training 1st year).
  2. Be certified in at least one life support course - ALS (or RCEM recognised equivalence).
  3. Have achieved a minimum score of 7.0 in each section(speaking, listening, reading and writing) of the academic module of the IELTS and an overall minimum score of 7.5. Test should have been taken within the last 2 years. 

Or

Have achieved a grade of at least 'B' in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing) of the Occupational English Test (OET)-medicine version. Test should have been taken within the last 2 years.

  1. End of every year of training, trainees must be successful in their Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) outcome, which will be conducted by a panel of Consultants from RCEM/NHS/TRAINING SITE/WAML. At the end of first year HI-GASTRO training in Nepal, trainees must be successful in their ARCP, before entering the MTI UK training.
  2. Have an institutional sponsor specifying the post they will return to, in Nepal. 

EXAM DETAILS: 

QiMET International will conduct the exam.

  • MCQ- 50 MCQ questions (TIME: REGISTRATION – 9.30 AM NST. EXAM – 10 AM TO 11 AM NST
  • MCQ EXAM VENUE: Virtual Exam Sessions via ZOOM 
  • Selected candidates will appear for Stations on - Clinical OSCE, Aptitude and Leadership & Communication Skills

JANUARY 24, 2024 (Only for selected candidates from MCQ exam):

  • English test (Only for selected candidates)- 500 words essay (TIME: 9AM TO 11 AM NST) via ZOOM
  • 3 stations – Clinical OSCE; Leadership and Communication; Aptitude Stations. All the stations will be virtual Exam Sessions via ZOOM
