Mid Valley School/College: A Strong Educational Destination After SEE
Selecting the right educational institution after SEE has become a major challenge for students. Until a few years ago, students from different municipalities within Kathmandu Valley believed that good colleges existed only in the inner city. However, Mid Valley Secondary School/College, located in Suryabinayak Municipality-4, Nayathimi, Bhaktapur, is increasingly establishing itself as an attractive and complete educational destination for post-SEE studies.
It offers NEB-affiliated Class 11 and 12 (10+2) programs, including Management, Science, and Law.
Beyond Traditional Learning Methods
This secondary school/college, operated to promote students' academic, psychological, and personal growth beyond traditional learning, has quickly won the trust of parents and students since its establishment last year.
According to the management team, the school was founded to prevent local students from having to travel far for quality education. Science Program Coordinator Pramod Pandey stated that the institution was established to ensure local children could study in a good institution close to home. He explained that modern infrastructure and facilities were built so students would not have to travel for Grades 11 and 12.
Academic Streams and Infrastructure
The school offers education in Science, Management, and Law streams. All classrooms are fully equipped with digital technology, making learning easier and more effective for students.
“We have transformed teaching into a digital format to make it as understandable as possible for the students,” said Pandey.
The school has a well-developed physical infrastructure, providing a supportive environment for both living and studying. Students engage in weekly practical sessions. For this, the school is equipped with computer labs and science labs for physics, biology, and chemistry.
“In line with the current global pace and direction, we have prioritized technology to enhance understanding,” Pandey added.
Focus on Psychology and Career Development
Mid Valley's strongest feature is its focus not only on academic results but also on the psychological and social development of students.
According to college director and psychologist Raki Maharjan, the college’s main objective is the holistic development of students.
“We are focused on students' psycho-social and personality development. By understanding the psychological, social, and emotional challenges of the teenage years, we use psychological approaches to help them grow into responsible and capable citizens,” said Maharjan.
Learning Style Testing and Parental Involvement
Immediately after enrollment, the school tests students' learning styles and tailors teaching accordingly.
Pandey mentioned that programs like parenting skills training for guardians, stress management, study habits, and career counseling are conducted regularly.
Emphasis on Co-Curricular Activities
Mid Valley strongly emphasizes co-curricular and extracurricular activities for students' all-round development.
Events like science and IT exhibitions, sports competitions, public speaking, and Olympiads help bring out students’ talents.
“We design co-curricular activities to complement the curriculum—like PowerPoint presentations, speeches, Math Olympiads, and Physics Olympiads to develop subject skills and creativity. Sports remain a core focus in extracurriculars,” Pandey shared.
Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering Preparation
Science students are offered pre-engineering and pre-medical classes from Grade 11 to prepare for competitive entrance exams.
Additional mock entrance tests are conducted in Grade 12 to boost student confidence.
Strong English Language Instruction
Special emphasis is placed on English language development. Director and English Department Coordinator Neelam Kumar Thagunna said the school has adopted methods to develop both grammar and writing skills simultaneously.
“This strengthens students’ expressive abilities,” Thagunna added.
Grade 12 science student Prabha Thagunna shared that even a tough subject like science is taught in a simplified and engaging manner.
“Our teachers are highly experienced—over 12 to 13 years—and teach using technology. That makes learning science interesting and easier,” she said.
Weekly hands-on practice sessions help students apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts.
Scholarships for All Students
All students enrolled at Mid Valley receive scholarships.
According to Pandey, no student is left behind due to financial constraints. The college offers education at very minimal fees.
“Our college charges far less than others at this level. And we provide scholarships to all students, regardless of GPA—whether low or highest,” Pandey said.
“Of course, the type of scholarship varies based on GPA and entrance score,” he added.
Promoting Love for the Nation
Mid Valley promotes a strong belief in loving and staying in the country.
Though many students tend to go abroad after completing +2, the school holds the belief that one should love and serve their own country.
“Our core motto is to love the country and stay here. We have no connections with foreign placement agencies,” Pandey affirmed.
“We encourage our students to pursue their goals within the country as far as possible. That’s the shared motto across our entire team.”
He emphasized that students are never advised to go abroad.
“There is no such culture in our college. If they go abroad with a scholarship, we encourage them to return and contribute here after completing their education,” Pandey said.
