Overview
Basanta Multiple Campus was established in 2066 BS (2009 AD) in Basantapur, Laligurans Municipality–2, Tehrathum, with one simple goal: to bring higher education closer to the people who need it most. It didn’t start with big buildings or funding—it started with a shared idea among local educators, community leaders, and everyday residents that their children shouldn’t have to leave home to earn a degree. This campus offers undergraduate programs such as Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS).
The campus is affiliated with Tribhuvan University and is officially recognized by Nepal’s University Grants Commission (UGC). From the very beginning, it has focused on creating access to education for students from rural, marginalized, and economically challenged backgrounds. Today, it continues to serve as a vital learning space for young people across the region who might otherwise be left behind.
Academic Programs
Basanta Multiple Campus currently offers two bachelor’s degree programs under Tribhuvan University: one in Business and the other in Education. Both are designed with the realities of rural life in mind—flexible, practical, and community-rooted.
Bachelor of Business Studies (BBS)
The BBS program falls under TU’s Faculty of Management. Students cover core business subjects in the first three years, including accounting, economics, and business law. In the fourth year, they can choose Marketing as an elective. This setup provides them with a strong foundation for careers in business, administration, or entrepreneurship.
Classes run from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM, which helps students balance school with work or family responsibilities.
Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.)
The BEd program is geared toward students who want to become teachers, especially in rural schools. It includes core education courses as well as optional subjects. By the final year, students choose one specialization—English, Nepali, or Population Studies—to focus their training.
Both programs offer students more than just classroom theory; they prepare them to return to their communities with the skills to contribute in meaningful ways.
Admissions Process
The admission process is straightforward. Students who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent can apply by submitting the following:
-
Academic transcripts
-
Character certificate
-
Recent passport-sized photographs
-
Completed application form (available on campus)
All admissions follow Tribhuvan University’s official guidelines. Deadlines, seat availability, and orientation schedules are announced every academic year.
Campus Life
Life at Basanta Multiple Campus is simple, but full of purpose. Most students walk or travel from nearby villages to attend morning classes. The early schedule allows many to return home in time for household or field work. It’s a rhythm that suits the community well.
Inside the classroom, the focus is on learning through direct interaction. Teachers and students know each other by name, and that sense of familiarity helps build trust. Events like guest lectures, workshops, and community seminars are regularly held outside the classroom, turning the campus into a space where learning feels active and connected.
Faculty and Teaching Methodology
The teaching staff includes experienced educators who understand the local context. Some are from nearby areas, while others have returned to serve in their home districts after completing their studies elsewhere. This shared understanding of local needs shapes how classes are taught.
Teachers are encouraged to use discussion, group activities, and simple tech tools in their lessons. More recently, the campus has started adopting research-oriented teaching, allowing students to think critically and participate more actively in learning.
Campus Facilities
The campus may not be large, but it’s built with care. Facilities include:
-
Classrooms with basic teaching materials
-
A growing library with textbooks and references
-
Internet access for assignments and research
-
A help desk for student inquiries
While infrastructure development is ongoing, the space remains clean, functional, and student-friendly. Local government bodies have also been involved in discussions to improve facilities in the coming years.
Student Life and Extracurricular Activities
Campus life isn’t just about exams and lectures. Students are regularly involved in activities that help them grow as individuals and active members of society. These include:
-
Inter-campus sports events
-
Awareness campaigns on health, environment, and social issues
-
Cultural programs that reflect regional traditions and festivals
-
Group projects and student clubs focused on peer learning
These experiences allow students to lead, participate, and connect beyond the classroom.
Scholarships and Financial Support
Understanding the financial pressures many families face, the campus offers scholarships for needy students. These are made possible through:
-
Internal campus resources
-
Support from local donors and businesses
-
Partial aid from Laligurans Municipality
Priority is given to girls, indigenous students, and those from low-income families. Information about these opportunities is shared during admission so students and parents can plan accordingly.
