Establishment and Institutional Background

College of Natural Resource and Management, Tikapur, Kailali, was established as a constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University under the Faculty of Agriculture, Rampur, Chitwan.

The college received approval at a special Senate meeting of AFU held on 18 April 2017. The meeting was chaired by the then Prime Minister and Chancellor of the university, Mr. Puspa Kamal Dahal.

Local participation was also part of the establishment process. “Krishi College Sthapanartha Sahyog Samiti Tikapur, Kailali” supported the establishment of the college, while land was contributed for its academic and practical activities.

The Principal of CNRM Tikapur was appointed on 14 Magh 2074. The college subsequently began academic activities for its first B.Sc. Agriculture batch in the same academic period.

Location in Tikapur, Kailali

The college is situated in Tikapur in Kailali district of Sudurpashchim Province. Tikapur is approximately 620 km west of Kathmandu, around 14 km south of Mahendra Rajmarg and about 14 km north of the Indian border.

The wider Tikapur area is bordered by:

  • Karnali River to the east

  • Janaki Rural Municipality to the north

  • India to the south

  • Bhajani Municipality to the west

Tikapur Municipality covers approximately 122.12 square kilometres. CNRM operates in this part of Kailali as one of the constituent colleges under AFU's Faculty of Agriculture.

University and Faculty

CNRM Tikapur is a constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU) and functions under the Faculty of Agriculture.

The B.Sc. Agriculture program follows the academic structure of AFU. Course delivery is conducted according to the AFU bulletin, while admission is based on the university's entrance examination result.

During the college's establishment period, academic and administrative support was also provided through the Faculty of Agriculture at Rampur, Chitwan.

The first batch started its first semester in 2074 BS. The first class was formally inaugurated on 13 Chaitra 2074 by the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, AFU. Participants included a member of the Provincial Parliament, the Mayor, officials from the AFU central office and local representatives from Tikapur.

During the establishment phase, the college had 52 students, including 10 female students.

Teaching and Human Resources

The college's early academic operations included faculty appointed at CNRM as well as teaching and administrative assistance from the Faculty of Agriculture in Rampur.

Three Assistant Professors were appointed in the following academic areas:

  • Horticulture

  • Agronomy

  • Plant Breeding

The appointments were made on 24 Baisakh 2074, and teaching activities began from 1 Jesth 2074. Contract teachers from Rampur also conducted theory and practical classes.

Administrative arrangements during this period included the Principal, support personnel connected with the Faculty of Agriculture, account-related assistance from Rampur and office support staff based in Tikapur.

Academic Facilities

During its establishment phase, CNRM operated from the premises of Birendra Bidya Mandir Multiple Campus in Tikapur. Four rooms were allocated for its academic and administrative activities.

The available spaces accommodated:

  • Administrative office

  • Laboratory

  • Classroom

  • Library

Planning for separate CNRM infrastructure was also initiated. This process included hiring a consultant for a feasibility study and preparing physical infrastructure plans for academic, laboratory, library and administrative blocks.

Land and Practical Agriculture Activities

Land for the college was arranged with local participation during its establishment. A total of 10 bigha was contributed by the Nagar Bikash Samiti through Birendra Bidya Mandir Higher Secondary School Trust, Tikapur, Kailali.

The land was occupied for college purposes and used as an outdoor laboratory area for agronomy and horticulture activities. These areas supported field-based components of the agriculture program during the college's early academic operations.
