Introduction

Kanya Mandir Secondary School has a distinct place in Nepal’s education history as the country’s first public girls’ school. Its establishment in 2003 BS marked an organized community effort to expand formal education for girls in Kathmandu.

Founding and Institutional History

Kanya Mandir Secondary School was founded on 14th Chaitra 2003 BS at Bhajanpati in Nyukha Tol. The school began with 13 girl students at a time when formal education for girls in Nepal had limited public access.

The founding members were:

The school was inaugurated on 14th Chaitra 2007 BS by the then Shri 5th Maharajadhiraj Tribhuvan. It was recognized as a lower secondary school on February 1, 2005, and later approved as a secondary school on Falgun 1, 2007. In 2018 BS, the Department of Education selected the school as a multi-purpose secondary school.

In 2054 BS, the school received affiliation from the Council of Higher Secondary Education and started higher secondary teaching under the Faculty of Management, Humanities, and Education.

Kanya Mandir Secondary School is located at Chettrapati, Ikhapokhari, Nhyokha-25, Kathmandu, Nepal. Its location is also described in relation to wards 25 and 17 of Mahanagara Palika and Constituency No. 7 of Kathmandu District.

The school area extends toward the east side of Chhatrapati Chowk and the northwest tol of Nyokha Tol. Its surrounding area includes Ikhapokhari, a historical heritage site. This places the school within an old and culturally significant part of Kathmandu.

Academic Levels

Early Childhood Development and Pre-Primary Level
