Overview

Suryagadhi Community Campus was established to make higher education accessible to students living in and around Suryagadhi Rural Municipality. Its service area extends beyond the municipality to nearby communities of Nuwakot and Rasuwa. The campus is situated in Chokde Bazaar, which serves as the administrative center of Suryagadhi Rural Municipality.

The campus developed through local initiative and community participation. It received educational, financial, and physical support during its establishment and early operation. Bageshwori Secondary School played an important role in the campus’s early phase, including support with land and facilities.

History and Establishment

The foundation for higher education in the area strengthened after Bageshwori Secondary School received permission in 2004 AD (2061 BS) to operate higher secondary-level education. As local students completed that level, demand for bachelor-level study increased, leading to efforts to establish a campus in the area.

A feasibility study was carried out by a team from Tribhuvan University in December 2007. Local discussions and public meetings followed in 2008 and early 2009 with the participation of students, parents, and community members. The campus received affiliation on December 25, 2008 (2065-09-10 BS) and subsequently came into operation with local support and coordination.

For around a decade after its establishment, the campus operated under an agreement with Bageshwori Secondary School and used its classrooms, office space, and library. This arrangement supported the campus during its early development.

Location and Service Area

The campus is located about 16 kilometers north of Bidur, the district headquarters of Nuwakot. It is situated in Chokde, Ward No. 3, within Suryagadhi Rural Municipality. Chokde Bazaar, where the campus is located, serves as the municipal center of the rural municipality.

Its service and catchment area includes all wards of Suryagadhi Rural Municipality, Tadi-2 of Nuwakot, Bhorele and Sarmathali areas of Naukund Rural Municipality in Rasuwa District, and surrounding areas such as Bidur-11 and Gerkhu.

Administrative work began from the campus’s own building in October 2020 (2077 Ashwin BS). Regular classes started in the campus’s own premises in December 2021 (2078 Mangsir BS). This marked an important stage in the institution’s physical development.

Community Role and Social Contribution

The campus has a wider role in local community life beyond classroom instruction. Its premises have been used for local programs and institutional events, including vote counting for local elections held on May 13, 2017 and May 13, 2022.

The campus has also taken part in community-oriented activities such as legal literacy programmes, community–police partnership initiatives, tourism promotion efforts, and environmental conservation campaigns. Local society has contributed to the campus through land support, grants, construction assistance, and student mobilization.
