Diploma in Pharmacy is a three-year program under the yearly system. One academic year consists of 35 academic weeks or 210 working days, and one academic week consists of 40 hours, excluding the examination period. Students must maintain at least 90% attendance in each subject to appear in the respective final examination.
The teacher-student ratio includes 1:40 for theory and tutorial classes and 1:10 for practical classes.
The first year focuses on core and academic courses. The second year covers pharmacy-related subjects such as Pharmaceutics I, Pharmacology I, Pharmaceutical Chemistry I, Pharmacognosy, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Pharmacotherapeutics I, Pharmaceutical Management, and Public Health Pharmacy.
The third year includes Pharmaceutics II, Pharmacology II, Pharmaceutical Chemistry II, Hospital and Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Community Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacotherapeutics II, and Comprehensive Field Practice. The field practice includes Hospital Pharmacy Practice and Health Facility, Community Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Industry, and Regulatory Body practice.
The course includes internal assessment and final examination. Students must pass all subjects in both theory and practical components for certification. The minimum pass mark is 40% in theory and 50% in practical. A back paper provision is available, but students must pass all subjects within six years from the enrollment date, with chance exam provision as per CTEVT rules.
Students who pass all components of all three years are awarded the degree of Diploma in Pharmacy. Graduates are eligible for positions equivalent to Non-gazette 1st class/Level 5 technical level as prescribed by the Public Service Commission of Nepal and related agencies. They are also eligible for registration with the related Council as provisioned in the related Council Act.
