Course Overview

The PCL Nursing program prepares students to provide preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and holistic care to individuals, families, and communities. The course is connected with the work requirements of Staff Nurses at different levels of Nepal’s health care system. It builds knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes needed for nursing practice.

At Gunaraj Pathak Memorial Nursing Campus, admission, selection, scholarship, fees, curriculum, final examination, result publication, certification, and related academic procedures are conducted as per CTEVT rules and regulations.

Eligibility and Admission

The CTEVT curriculum includes the following entry criteria for PCL Nursing:

• SLC in second division with 45% and English, Science, and Mathematics, or SEE with minimum GPA 2.0 and C grade in Compulsory Mathematics, English, and Science.

• SLC passed plus TSLC in Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) with minimum 68.33%.

• Applicants must pass the entrance examination administered by CTEVT.

• Eligible applicants are selected for admission on a merit basis.

Course Structure

The program runs for three academic years. One academic year consists of up to 40 weeks, and one academic week consists of up to 40 hours, excluding the evaluation period. Minimum 90% attendance in each subject is required to appear in the respective final examination.

The first year covers foundational nursing and community health learning. Major subjects include Fundamental of Nursing, Community Health Nursing I, Anatomy and Physiology, Basic Science Applied to Nursing, English, and Nepali.

The second year focuses on adult, elderly, mental health, and community health care. Major subjects include Medical and Surgical Nursing I and II, Geriatric Nursing, Behavioral Science and Mental Health Nursing, Community Health Nursing II, and Social Science.

The third year includes Midwifery Nursing I, II, and III, Gynecology Nursing, Child Health Nursing, and Leadership and Management. The curriculum includes both theory and practical hours across the three years.

Learning and Evaluation

Teaching-learning methods include lectures, discussion, group work, demonstration, simulation, guided practice, clinical practice, fieldwork, project work, case analysis, and report writing. The curriculum includes both internal assessment and final examination. Students must pass all theory and practical components for certification. The pass marks are minimum 40% in theory and 50% in practical.

Certification, Licensing, and Further Study

Students who pass all components of all subjects across the three years are awarded the Proficiency Certificate Level in Nursing. After completing the three-year health program, students must pass the required licensing examination of the respective professional council to become eligible for professional practice.

Graduates are eligible for the Staff Nurse position equivalent to Non-gazetted 1st class technical level or as prescribed by the Public Service Commission of Nepal. They may also pursue Bachelor of Nursing or an equivalent course as per university rules.
