NIRN Nepal Hosts Interfaith Prayer for Peace and Reconciliation
An interfaith prayer meeting was held to pray for the eternal peace of the martyrs—those who lost their lives in the Gen Z movement—and to pray for peace and reconciliation in the country. The National Inter Religious Network (NIRN Nepal) gathered religious leaders of all faiths in Lalitpur for this prayer for peace and reconciliation, according to the network’s chair, Ven. Mr. Piyadassi Maharjan.
On Bhadra 23 and 24, 2082, Hindu religious leader Pandit Ram Chandra Bhandari said that, through the prayer meeting, they wished for peace to be maintained in the present situation following demonstrations by Gen Z youth for a change of state power marked by corruption. Buddhist monk Bhikshu Dharmamurti said they pray within their community that such incidents—in which more than 74 people lost their lives and assets worth billions were destroyed—do not recur, and that the country, as the birthplace of Buddha, truly be a peaceful nation.
Likewise, Maulana MD Salman of the Islamic faith said they collectively prayed for the speedy recovery of all those injured in the movement. Christian leader Isujang Karki, through prayer, expressed the wish that the interim government work together with NIRN Nepal for peace and reconciliation.
CIN Manager Deepak Acharya said a campaign will be conducted by joining hands for peace and reconciliation in the country through cooperation among the Gen Z generation, security agencies, the bureaucracy, civil society, associations, the media, and religious leaders.
NIRN Nepal’s manager Nahida Banu said their organization will continue to take initiatives to fulfill the martyrs’ dreams and establish peace. Kirat religious leader Tilak Chamling said they will also run a campaign within their community for peace and reconciliation and encourage all groups to follow peace and religion.
