Remarks by the Chief Guest and Donor
Professor Mathema stated that honors and awards both assess a creator’s writing and inspire new works.
Donor and essayist Gwang said he was inspired to enter literature after taking tuition with Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota. He added that honoring creators gives him a feeling akin to making a new creation.
Perspectives on the Honorees’ Work
Essayist Mukundaraj Sharma shared views on the honorees’ works and profiles. He noted that fiction writer Dhruva Madhikarmi brings contemporary issues to the fore through satire, and that critic Gautam’s essays make a thoughtful effort to examine life experiences.
Convenor’s Note and Endowment
The program was convened by litterateur Shri Om Shrestha “Rodan.” Shrestha observed that, nowadays, non-literary figures increasingly confer literary awards, and despite large cash amounts, such awards often lack continuity.
He added that Tejeshwar Gwang has pooled the prize money he received over his lifetime to establish an endowment and has been awarding creators from that fund, which is commendable.
Commitment and Acknowledgments
Sanjiv Gogal, a member of the Gwang Sirapa working committee and son of Gwang, shared information about the 93-year-old Gwang’s literary commitment and dedication.
The honored creators, Madhikarmi and Gautam, expressed their gratitude.
Award Frequency
The Gwang Sirapa Honor is conferred every two years to two creators.
