Hari Bodhni Ekadashi Fair to Be Held at Resunga in Gulmi
A grand religious fair is set to take place on Saturday, Kartik 15, at the historic, religious, and tourist site of Resunga in Gulmi on the auspicious occasion of Hari Bodhni Ekadashi.
Every year on the day of Hari Bodhni (Thulo) Ekadashi, celebrated in the month of Kartik, a large fair is organized at Resunga Dham. According to Suresh Chandra Bhusal, Chairperson of the Resunga Conservation Committee, thousands of devotees from different parts of the country come to Resunga to participate in holy bathing, worship, prayers, and devotional singing.
The main attractions of the fair include bathing at the Mahapokhari (great pond), visiting the Yagyashala, Siddhasthan (Small Resunga), Vishnupaduka, Ramkuwa, and the View Tower — all significant religious and touristic sites. In addition, devotional singing and religious discourses will be organized. Chairperson Bhusal informed that seven subcommittees have been formed to ensure the fair is well-managed and successful.
Various organizations active in Tamghas have been assisting in making the event successful. Resunga, considered one of Nepal’s four sacred dhams, is believed to possess spiritual power — bathing in the Mahapokhari is said to wash away sins committed unintentionally. The pond, built by Laxminarayan, contains water brought from sacred sources such as the Sarayu River of Ayodhya, the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati at Prayag, the Bhagirathi of Kashi, the holy waters of Gaya, Kaushiki, Muktinath, Kaligandaki, and Manasarovar. Bathing in Mahapokhari is believed to be equivalent to bathing in all these sacred rivers.
Due to the belief that wishes made with pure devotion are fulfilled here, devotees visit the temples of Resunga Dham throughout the year. Pilgrims come not only from different areas of Gulmi but also from neighboring districts such as Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Syangja, and Baglung. In recent years, the presence of both domestic and foreign religious tourists has also increased. Every day, devotees can be seen arriving from various parts of the country.
To promote Resunga as a tourist destination, Resunga Municipality has launched the campaign “Jaaun Hind Resunga” (Let’s Go, Walk to Resunga). Located about 30 minutes from the district headquarters Tamghas, Resunga Dham is now easily accessible due to the construction of a paved road. With its natural beauty and spiritual significance, the Resunga area is expected to be filled with even greater religious enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy during this year’s Hari Bodhni Ekadashi celebration.
