Former Election Commissioner and writer Dr. Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has stated that Saptari district is a stronghold of the Maithili language.

Speaking as the chief guest at the launch of the book “Maithili Lokokti Sagar,” organized by Amrit Sahara Foundation Saptari at the Nepal Journalists Association hall, Dr. Yadav remarked that the protection and promotion of the Maithili language has not taken place to the extent necessary. He expressed concern that the language is facing encroachment and emphasized the need for its preservation and promotion.

Book Launch and Contributors

The book, published by journalist and literary figure Shyam Sundar Yadav and compiled, edited, and written by Sagar Veer Kadari, was launched by former Election Commissioner Dr. Yadav.

The publication brings together traditional Maithili expressions that have long been in use in Madhesh and aims to support their continuity and renewal.

Content of Maithili Lokokti Sagar

According to speakers at the program, the book is expected to help revive and preserve a disappearing cultural heritage and old expressions. It includes:

  • 1,011 Maithili proverbs (kahabi/bhanai)

  • 514 riddles and proverbial expressions (bujhauli/pahaili/ukhan)

  • 223 humorous and satirical sayings (fakda/tukka)

Purpose of Amrit Sahara Foundation

Sagar Veer Kadari stated that he established the Amrit Sahara Foundation during the COVID-19 period in the name of his brother, who is a person with different abilities.

He explained that the proceeds from the sale of the book will be deposited in the Foundation and used to support persons with different abilities, as well as economically disadvantaged and helpless individuals.
