Bagmati to Upgrade Health Academy, Open New Building
The Bagmati Province Government is set to upgrade the Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences and develop it into a university. Inaugurating the newly built 200-bed specialized services building at Hetauda Hospital under the academy, Bagmati Province Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya said that the process of turning the academy into a university has already moved forward.
Chief Minister Baniya claimed that by the time students currently enrolled at the academy complete their studies and receive their certificates, the institution will already have become Madan Bhandari Health Sciences University. Stating that there should be no politics in basic public sectors such as health and education, he said that specialist services would be expanded through the academy not only at Hetauda Hospital but also in all 13 district hospitals of the province. He added that the human resources produced by the academy would help deliver quality health services at all municipal and district levels across the province.
As part of hospital service improvement and expansion, the capacity of dialysis services has also been increased. According to Chief Minister Baniya, the hospital had previously been operating only 14 dialysis machines, but 16 more machines have now been added at once, taking the total to 30.
According to Bhupendra Kumar Yadav, Chief Engineer and Head of the Urban Development and Building Office, Makwanpur, the newly constructed hospital building was completed at a total cost of Rs. 266,425,280 including VAT.
At the program, Bagmati Province Health Minister Kiran Thapa Magar pledged that there would be no shortage of medicines and equipment in any hospital or health institution under the province. Stating that the provincial government is working to end the situation in which citizens lose their lives due to lack of treatment, he said that scholarship and similar programs have been launched to help students from poor families become doctors.
Likewise, former Chief Minister Dormani Poudel and former Health Minister Ekalal Shrestha expressed confidence that the completion of the new building would make it easier to expand hospital services and improve treatment for patients.
