Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, 2083 Kartik 20: The Government of Nepal, Medical Education Commission (MEC), Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, issued a press statement on 2083 Kartik 20 (Nepal Sambat 1946, Kaulaga) regarding the completion of the undergraduate medical education common entrance examination and the seat allocation process for the academic year 2083/084.

According to the statement, the Medical Education Common Entrance Examination (MECCEE-BL2027) was conducted from 2083/07/14 to 2083/07/18 for student admissions to various undergraduate medical education programs.

The Commission expressed its gratitude and appreciation to everyone who directly or indirectly contributed to conducting the examination in an orderly and disciplined manner.

Those acknowledged include central and district-level security committee officials, observers, supervisors, coordinators, examination centre chiefs, deputy and assistant centre chiefs, biometric coordinators and staff, invigilators, support staff, security personnel, all participating students, and other concerned individuals.

Directorate Responsibilities and Seat Allocation Process

The Medical Education Commission clarified that the position of Director of the Directorate of Planning, Coordination and Academic Enhancement remains vacant because the appointment process has not been completed.

As a result, one of the serving directors has been assigned additional responsibility for the Directorate and has been carrying out its functions.

According to the Commission, the Integrated Procedure for Quality Assessment and Seat Allocation of Medical Education Institutions, 2083, clearly specifies the procedures to be followed when determining seats for medical education programs.

In accordance with this procedure, a Seat Allocation Recommendation Committee was formed with the participation of experts.

The committee recommended program-wise and institution-wise seat allocations for the academic year 2083/084 for undergraduate, DM/MCh, and NBMS programs.

The recommendations were based on on-site inspection and monitoring reports submitted by experts, along with other criteria prescribed by the procedure.

The Commission stated that the seat allocations were subsequently determined through a decision of the Medical Education Commission meeting chaired by the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, based on the recommendation of the Commission's Executive Committee.

The statement further clarified that the Seat Allocation Recommendation Committee includes Deans, Assistant Deans, and expert members from the medical education institutes of universities and academies.

As these officials and experts may be affiliated with particular educational institutions, the Commission stated that arrangements are in place to prevent the concerned members from attending meetings where seat allocation recommendations relating to their own institutions are being decided.

The Commission maintained that its activities have been carried out in accordance with these arrangements.

Commission Urges Stakeholders to Rely on Verified Information

The Medical Education Commission requested all concerned stakeholders not to be misled by or rely on what it described as misleading information published by some media outlets and circulated on social media regarding medical education.

The Commission urged stakeholders to understand the actual facts before forming opinions about the issues concerned.

The Commission also extended its best wishes to all stakeholders on the occasion of the upcoming Nepali festivals of Deepawali and Chhath.
