Class 12 Results Being Prepared for Publication by Asar 10
The National Examination Board is preparing to publish the results of the Secondary Education Completion Examination, or Class 12, by the coming Asar 10. The board has stated that answer-sheet scrutiny has been completed and tabulation work is currently underway.
According to Examination Controller Krishna Prasad Sharma, work is being carried out with the aim of publishing the results by Asar 10. “The scrutiny of answer sheets has been completed and tabulation work is underway. The results will be published by the 10th,” he said.
The government has instructed that results be published within 45 days. Examination Controller Sharma said employees are working accordingly and that the results will be published before 45 days. Earlier, the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) were published in 29 days.
The Class 12 examination was conducted from Baisakh 14 to 27. A total of 418,008 examinees had filled out forms for the examination. There were 332,178 examinees under the regular category. Among them, 172,012 were boys, 160,137 were girls, and 29 were others. There were 85,830 students under the partial category.
The examination was conducted from a total of 1,421 examination centers, including 1,420 across Nepal and one in Japan.
The final examination at the school level is held in Class 12. The National Examination Board has been conducting the Class 12 examination. Section 2(Chha) of the Education Act mentions the Secondary Education Completion Examination, or School Leaving Certificate Examination, as the examination held at the end of secondary education. It is abbreviated as SLCE.
Since 2073, the final examination held in Class 10 has been called the Secondary Education Examination, or SEE. Before the SEE began, the final examination of Class 10 was called the SLC. The SLC, which began in 1990, was discontinued from 2073, and the SEE was introduced. The current Education Act provides for both the SLCE and SEE examinations.
Since the final examination of school education is held in Class 12, there has also been debate over whether the final examination of Class 10 should be abolished. Prof. Dr. Vidyanath Koirala has said that the Class 10 examination is not necessary. According to him, students should use materials that allow them to assess themselves, and it would be appropriate for the board to conduct only the final examination of Class 12.
Former Chairperson of the Parents’ Federation, Suprabhat Bhandari, has also said that there is no need to conduct the final Class 10 examination at the national level. He expressed the view that the Class 10 examination could be conducted regularly or at the provincial level, and that the structure of examinations should be changed through the new education act to be formulated.
