Critic Prof. Vasudev Tripathi Honored with Govinda Bhatt Memorial Award

Critic Prof. Vasudev Tripathi has been honored with the ‘Sahitya Sandhya–Govinda Bhatt Memorial Award and Honor.’ The award was presented during a special program organized by Sahitya Sandhya on Saturday in Kathmandu.

Former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Bairagi Kaila, presented the award, which carries a cash prize of NPR 50,000. The award was established through the initiative of former Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Ganga Prasad Upreti.

Ceremony Highlights

The event was chaired by Ram Vinay, President of Sahitya Sandhya. During the ceremony, Prof. Hemnath Paudel presented an introduction to the late critic Govinda Bhatt, in whose memory the award was founded.

On behalf of the creator selection committee, Prof. Jagat Upadhyay ‘Prekshit’ shared the reasons behind selecting Prof. Tripathi and reflected on his life, character, and literary contributions.

Similarly, Upadhyay, who also coordinated the award selection committee, delivered a detailed discussion on the achievements, writings, and influence of Prof. Tripathi in the field of Nepali literature.

Life and Contributions of Prof. Vasudev Tripathi

Born on Chaitra 13, 1999 B.S. in Chundiramgha, Tanahun District, Prof. Tripathi is widely recognized as a critic, poet, essayist, linguist, translator, and editor.

He has earned a distinguished place in Nepali literature for his versatile roles as a literary critic, poet, linguist, social worker, educator, and editor. His major works include:

  • Nepali Kavita Ko Sinhavalokan

  • Vicharan

  • Pashchatya Samalochana Ko Saidhantik Parampara (Volumes 1 and 2)

  • Sahityakar Pahalman Singh Swar Ko Punarmulyankan

  • Lekhnath Poudyal Ko Kavitvako Bishleshan Ra Mulyankan

  • Ek Jhalak: Biography of Writer Jhapat Bahadur Rana

Literary and Scholarly Works

Prof. Tripathi has also contributed to the Nepali Kavita series (Volumes 1, 2, and 4) and has written and edited various critical and editorial works under Nepali Sahitya Shrinkhala (Volumes 1 and 2). His other notable critical texts include Sahitya Siddhanta: Shodh Tatha Sirjan Vidhi and several collections of analytical essays and studies.

As a poet, he has published multiple collections, including:
