Students in Dadeldhura Schools Learn Entrepreneurship and Skills Along with Book Knowledge

The traditional meaning of school, once considered limited to classrooms, textbooks, homework, and examinations, has begun to change in Dadeldhura. Moving away from the belief that success means only securing good marks, schools in the district have started providing students with practical and entrepreneurial education.
Considering the growing problem of educated unemployment caused by a lack of skills, entrepreneurial thinking, and practical knowledge among youths who have obtained higher education, the Education Development and Coordination Unit, Dadeldhura, has launched an “Entrepreneurship Development and Promotional Program” as a model in three schools of the district. Under this program, students are busy learning vocational skills.
Students of Bhageshwar Secondary School, located in Parshuram Municipality-1, are seen not only reading textbooks but also cutting mangoes, making pickles, packaging them, and planning market management. A total of 60 students of the school have collectively produced four quintals, or 400 kilograms, of mango pickle.
In this practical class, students are learning the entire process from production to market, along with lessons in mathematics, management, labor, market, and enterprise at the same time. According to the school’s head teacher, Karbir Singh Bohara, the objective is not only income generation but also the development of entrepreneurial thinking among students, where they are learning in practice how to produce, how to calculate costs, and how to find a market.
Similarly, 35 students at Siddhanath Secondary School, located in Parshuram Municipality-12, are learning electrical wiring work. They are gaining basic skills related to household electrical installation and repair. According to the school, this is not merely training for them but also an opening to the possibility of becoming self-employed in the future.
Sahasraling Secondary School, located in Amargadhi Municipality-10, has connected education with agricultural enterprise. Mushroom farming has been started on the school premises, where students are learning mushroom production, management, market search, and the basic aspects of agriculture business.
The school stated that this program, being conducted under the direct supervision of teachers, has helped attract students toward the agriculture sector and helped them understand agriculture not only as a traditional means of livelihood but also as a modern enterprise.
According to Khadka Bahadur Mahat, chief of the Education Development and Coordination Unit, traditional education alone cannot make students self-reliant. He believes that if students are provided practical education from the school level itself, they will be capable of creating opportunities on their own in the future.
Regarding this practice being carried out in Dadeldhura schools, District Coordination Committee Chief Gagan Singh Bhandari said it has delivered a positive message. He said this practice has conveyed the important message that education is not only a means of passing examinations but also a process of learning the art of living.
