
Dr. Indra Prasad Tiwari Appointed as Vice Chancellor of Gandaki University
Dr. Indra Prasad Tiwari has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Gandaki University. Chief Minister Surendra Raj Pandey handed over the appointment letter to Dr. Tiwari on Friday.
Dr. Tiwari, who hails from Lekhnath in Pokhara Metropolitan City of Kaski, is the former Dean of the School of Social Sciences at Pokhara University.
Earlier, the Vice Chancellor Recommendation Committee had shortlisted three candidates and submitted the names to the Chief Minister.
The selection committee, chaired by Dr. Kailashnath Pyakurel, who is also the Chairperson of the University Judicial Council, included Kalpana Lamsal, a member of the Provincial Public Service Commission, and Dr. Yamuna Ghale, a member of the Judicial Council. The committee submitted the recommended names to Chief Minister Pandey on Chaitra 21.
Among the shortlisted candidates were Dr. Tiwari, Dr. Bishwakalyan Parajuli, and Dr. Saroj Koirala. Although seven individuals applied for the position of Vice Chancellor, only five were approved for consideration. The selection process began after the tenure of former Vice Chancellor Dr. Ganeshman Gurung ended on Falgun 4.
Gandaki University is Nepal’s first provincial university. Its central office is located at Mustang Chowk, Pokhara. The university has acquired land from the Government of Nepal and has already built temporary and local infrastructure in Gyanakunj, Pokhara-32. Plans are underway to shift the main office and academic programs to this site.
This is the first university in Nepal where the system of appointing the Vice Chancellor is managed through a Judicial Council framework.
