Kathmandu Metropolis Urges Noise Pollution Control
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has urged stakeholders not to carry out activities that produce unnecessary and excessive noise in public places, industrial areas, residential areas, market areas, and office premises.
In an urgent notice issued on 2083/02/09, the Environment Management Department under the Office of the Municipal Executive stated that the office has been receiving widespread public complaints about the increasing level of noise pollution.
According to the Metropolitan City, noise pollution can affect human health and mental peace, as well as adversely affect the natural life of birds and other living beings and the environmental balance.
Requests for Noise Pollution Control
The Metropolitan City has made the following requests for controlling noise pollution:
Do not use or cause the use of loudspeakers, microphones, sound systems, and other noise-producing equipment unnecessarily or beyond the prescribed limit.
Do not use vehicle horns unnecessarily in public places, roads, and residential areas.
Complete assemblies, ceremonies, construction work, or other programs within the prescribed time.
Pay special attention to maintaining a peaceful environment around schools, hospitals, offices, industries, factories, and residential areas.
Fully comply with the KMC Pollution Control Standard, 2081.
The Metropolitan City stated that if the monitoring team finds, during monitoring, that any activity has been carried out contrary to the KMC Pollution Control Standard, 2081, fines will also be imposed as per the KMC Environment and Natural Resources Protection Act, 2077.
