Pre-approval is Mandatory to Write a Textbook:

The trend of writing random textbooks in secondary level 11th and 12th classes will be strictly controlled from this year. The past practice of authors writing textbooks and sending them directly to the market has been found to be of poor quality and the curriculum has not been included.

Now, the provision that all textbooks of class 11 and 12 have to be submitted to the Curriculum Development Center for pre-approval and can be published only after listing has been implemented from this year. Director of the Center Ganesh Prasad Bhattarai informed that the book should be submitted for approval after the author has prepared it and publication will be allowed after giving approval.

With the government's decision to introduce a new curriculum in class 11 from this time, the textbook author has so far submitted 150 books for listing, he said. Books on three subjects including Nepali, English, and social and life skills education will be published from the government level. The government has decided not to publish other elective subjects. It will be measured by a team of experts on the basis of the language style used in the textbooks, the content, whether the curriculum has been followed or not. Earlier, when ten pairs of two-tier classes were conducted under the Higher Secondary Education Council, the author used to publish the book on his own and the students used it, but now the textbooks are being managed accordingly as it is considered as school level up to class 12, the official said.

70 percent marks mandatory

Bhattarai informed that the book submitted in this way will be approved only if it brings more than 70 percent marks in the evaluation by the experts. He informed the author will be given more time to get the approval of the textbook. Earlier, the Center had given time till mid-July to submit for approval.

The authors said that the new provision of approval of textbooks if implemented honestly is positive and welcome. Writer on social issues Madhav Dahal said that it would maintain the quality of textbooks and create an environment for students to study quality materials. However, he said that sincerity should be shown in its implementation.

Mathematics textbook writer Dayaram Simkhada said that the policy of accepting textbooks and measuring their quality was positive, adding that the authors should be approved in time. He emphasizes that the work of listing textbooks should be completed at least one month before the commencement of new classes for the 11th and 12th classes.
