Application for Foreign Employment Children Scholarship

Government of Nepal, Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Foreign Employment Board Secretariat, Babarmahal, Kathmandu, applications are invited for the Foreign Employment Children Scholarship.

Children of workers who obtained labour approval and went abroad, and who died, became disabled, or fell ill within the specified period and received 100% financial assistance from the Welfare Fund through this Secretariat, must submit applications at their current educational institution in the format of Schedule (1) of the Foreign Employment Children Scholarship Operation Procedure, 2080, by the end of Kartik 2082.

1. Where Students Submit Applications

  • Submission Body: By the end of Kartik 2082, students must submit applications at the school where they are currently enrolled, using the format in Schedule-1 of the Procedure.

  • Documents from Local Level: Even if the student’s permanent address is elsewhere, documents—including the relationship certificate to be certified—must be prepared through the ward office of the student’s own local level and then submitted with the scholarship application to the current school.

A) Documents for Students Already Receiving the Scholarship

  • Application: As per Schedule-1.

  • Worker’s Passport: Copy.

  • School Recommendation: From the school where the class of study is running.

  • Bank Account: Copy of a cheque for the student’s or guardian’s active bank account.

B) Documents for Students Receiving the Scholarship for the First Time in FY 2082/083

  • Application: As per Schedule-1.

  • Worker’s Passport: Copy.

  • School Recommendation: From the school where the class of study is running.

  • Birth Registration: Copy.

  • Guardian’s Citizenship: Copy.

  • Relationship Certificate: Copy showing the relationship between the worker, guardian, and student.

  • Bank Account: Copy of a cheque for the student’s or guardian’s active bank account.

2. Target Group (Eligibility)

  • Eligible Children: Sons/daughters of workers who obtained labour approval and, in the course of foreign employment, died, became disabled, or fell ill and received 100% (one hundred percent) financial assistance from the Foreign Employment Board.

  • Definition of 100% Assistance:

    • From 2065/07/18 to 2068/02/19: Rs. 100,000

    • From 2068/02/20 to 2071/06/30: Rs. 750,000

    • From 2071/06/31 to 2074/04/15: Rs. 700,000

    • From 2074/04/16 to 2081/07/07: Rs. 700,000

    • From 2082/08/08 to the application deadline: Rs. 1,000,000
      (Note: Beneficiaries who suffered death or disability but did not receive the full amount of assistance/compensation are not eligible for this scholarship.)

  • School Level and Age: Only children under 18 years enrolled at school level (from pre-primary/nursery or equivalent up to Grade 12) in any community or institutional school in Nepal may apply.

  • Academic Session Covered: Only children of workers who received the above-mentioned assistance by the end of Ashoj 2082 will be provided the scholarship for academic session 2022.

3. Scholarship Amount

  • Annual Amounts:

    • Basic Level: Rs. 12,000 (twelve thousand) per year

    • Secondary Level: Rs. 16,000 (sixteen thousand) per year

  • Disbursement: One-time annual lump sum per student per class, deposited directly into a bank account.

  • Multiple Children: Assistance is available to all eligible children of the same worker.

4. Responsibilities of Students and Guardians

  • Obligation: Upon receiving this notice, study the Procedure, prepare all required documents accordingly, and submit the application to the concerned school.

5. Responsibilities of Schools

  • Information and Collection: Disseminate information on the Foreign Employment Children Scholarship to all concerned students and guardians and collect applications.

  • Recommendation: Provide the recommendation for the class in which the student is enrolled.

  • Forwarding to Local Level: Compile the collected applications in the format of Schedule-2 and send them to the concerned local level by Mangsir 7, 2082.

6. Responsibilities of Local Level

  • Decision per Procedure: As per Clause 7(5) of the Procedure for recommending the Foreign Employment Scholarship, arrange for the Education Committee’s decision.

  • Data Entry in FEWIMS: Through the designated focal person of the local level using the Secretariat’s online system (Foreign Employment Welfare Information Management System—FEWIMS), ensure entry by the end of Poush 2082.
