Kathmandu Metropolitan City to Selects Deserving Class 11 Students for Private School Scholarships

Kathmandu Metropolitan City is set to pioneer a revolutionary new scholarship program, which aims to help class 11 students from this academic session onward. This initiative, under the leadership of Mayor Balendra Shah, is aimed towards private schools within the Metropolitan Municipality's jurisdiction.

Scholarship Distribution and Selection Process

Breaking the traditional mold, these private schools will have the responsibility of selecting deserving students for the scholarships themselves. The initiative aims to provide more opportunities for students from public schools, particularly those residing in marginalized communities, tribal tribes, and financially disadvantaged backgrounds.

The selection criteria will focus on their merit and performance in examinations. This merit-based approach ensures fairness and recognizes the academic prowess of these students. Once selected, the students will benefit from high-quality education provided by private schools under scholarship.

Remuneration Equality For Private School Teachers

Another groundbreaking initiative undertaken by Mayor Balendra Shah is striving for parity in remuneration between private and public school teachers. As stated on Thursday, Mayor Shah has directed private schools to provide remuneration to their teachers at par with their counterparts in government schools.

The directive, rooted in the Education Act 2028 BS and the Municipal Corporation's School Education Management Regulations 2078, empowers private school teachers to lodge a complaint if they are not receiving equivalent pay.

However, this particular directive has been met with dissatisfaction among private school administrators. These administrators argue their inability to implement this policy, raising questions about its practicality and possible implications.

Despite the potential challenges, these new measures by Kathmandu Metropolitan City show a commitment to improving educational opportunities and conditions for students and teachers alike. It remains to be seen how these initiatives will pan out in the long run, and what impact they will have on the private education sector.
