Mid-West University and Birendranagar Municipality Sign Rs. 20.20 Million Scholarship Endowment Agreement
Surkhet — Mid-West University (MU) and Birendranagar Municipality have signed a scholarship agreement targeting students.
Under the agreement, an endowment fund worth Rs. 20,202,200 has been established through cooperation between the university and the local government.
Birendranagar Municipality Mayor Mohanmaya Dhakal said the aim is to expand educational cooperation between the local government and the university and operate a scholarship program.
“This is expected to help expand access to higher education especially for local students,” she said.
Mayor Dhakal said the step was taken with the view that the local government should also take responsibility for higher education. She added that, as the university is located within the municipality and Birendranagar is also the municipality of the provincial capital, they have a responsibility to move forward by including all sectors.
Similarly, Mid-West University Vice-Chancellor Dhruva Kumar Gautam said initiatives have been taken under his leadership to connect the university with the community and to pass a procedure for creating the university’s permanent fund.
Vice-Chancellor Gautam added, “Such cooperation between the local government and the university makes an important contribution to improving educational quality.”
