Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws (BA LL.B.)

The BA LL.B. is a five-year integrated undergraduate program combining humanities and legal studies. Its structure allows students to begin with subjects that establish social, political, economic, and legal context before moving into more specialized areas of law.

The curriculum includes Political Theory and Thoughts, Economics, History of Nepal, Sociology, General Principles of Law, legal reasoning, Legal English, Legal Nepali, International Relations and Diplomacy, criminal law, procedural law, constitutional law, human rights law, public international law, legal research, professional ethics, contract law, company law, administrative law, and jurisprudence.

Clinical education appears throughout the program rather than being confined to the final stage. Students undertake legal writing, community outreach, advocacy-related work, visits, trial and appellate advocacy, professional development activities, and dissertation work. Optional groups cover areas such as criminal law, business law, constitutional law, and environment and development law.

This curricular structure connects academic study with research, legal writing, case analysis, advocacy, and community-oriented work.

Master of Laws (LL.M.)

The LL.M. is a two-year postgraduate law program intended for graduates seeking advanced study in law. Its academic focus includes legal theory, research, specialized legal study, and dissertation work.

Research has a central place in the program. Students have access to faculty guidance, e-library resources, legal databases, and internship opportunities. The program is structured for learners interested in deeper legal study and research-oriented academic work.

CHBEA also connects LL.M. learning with its wider legal environment through seminars, research activities, interaction with legal professionals, and institution-based academic activities.

BA in English with Honors

The three-year BA in English with Honors extends CHBEA’s academic work beyond law. The program concentrates on English language and literature while also covering linguistics, creative writing, communication, and related academic work.

Students study literature and language while developing reading, writing, interpretation, and communication abilities. Co-curricular activities are also included within the learning environment.

The program has an intake of 100 students under Purbanchal University.

MA in English

The two-year MA in English is a postgraduate program covering advanced English literature, linguistics, research methodology, academic writing, and thesis or dissertation work.

Its research component distinguishes it from undergraduate English study. Students work with advanced texts and academic methods while receiving faculty guidance in research and writing.

The program has 100 seats and is affiliated with Purbanchal University.

Practical legal education at CHBEA

Legal education at the Academy includes activities outside standard lectures. Moot court practice is one of the central components, giving students opportunities to work with legal arguments, research, presentation, and advocacy.

Other practical activities include:

  • Legal aid clinic activities

  • Court visits

  • Prison and detention center visits

  • Community outreach programs

  • Legal research projects

  • Seminars and workshops

  • Internship opportunities

  • Moot court competitions

  • Co-curricular and extracurricular activities

Students have also participated in international moot court activities. These experiences sit alongside classroom instruction rather than replacing the academic study of substantive and procedural law.

The combination of moot court work, legal aid, research, visits, and internships gives students several settings in which to apply legal concepts studied in class.

Academic direction

CHBEA’s academic objectives focus on legal knowledge, critical thinking, practical skills, research, advocacy, professional ethics, and social responsibility.

Its mission places legal education within a wider concern for justice, the rule of law, democratic values, and responsible professional practice. The Academy seeks to develop students who can understand legal principles, examine legal problems critically, conduct research, communicate legal arguments, and work within different areas of the legal profession.

The stated professional areas connected with its legal education include legal practice, judiciary, academia, legal advisory work, and public service. These areas describe the fields for which its academic and practical training is oriented rather than guaranteed career outcomes.
