College of Natural Resource Management, Khajura

College of Natural Resource Management, Khajura, Banke (CNRM) is a constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU), Nepal. It was established through the AFU Senate meeting held on 3 February 2020.

The college is located in Ward No. 3 of Khajura Rural Municipality, Banke, Lumbini Province, around 11 km west of Nepalgunj. CNRM Khajura runs the four-year B.Sc.Ag undergraduate program under AFU. Alongside its academic activities, the college has been developing its physical infrastructure on nine bigha of land through a land-use master plan, soil investigation, academic building preparation, and planning for basic campus facilities.

Establishment and Location

CNRM Khajura was established as a constituent college of Agriculture and Forestry University following the university Senate meeting held on 3 February 2020. Its location places the college in the western Terai region of Nepal.

The campus is situated in Khajura Rural Municipality, Ward No. 3, Banke. Khajura is around 11 km west of Nepalgunj, while Khajura Bazaar covers an area of 2,816.6 hectares.

The local climate is subtropical, with reported temperatures ranging from a maximum of 46°C to a minimum of -2°C. The surrounding area includes agricultural land, tall trees, and greenery, and the college site is separated from the busier city-center environment.

Human Resources

The staffing structure totaled 11 members during the college's development stage. Permanent or temporary university teachers had not been posted directly to the college, so teaching was arranged through outsourced faculty, particularly from FoA, Rampur.

Administrative, technical, and account staff were appointed permanently by the university. The college also appointed two support staff on a daily-wage basis.

This arrangement supported the college's administrative and operational functions while classroom teaching relied on faculty assigned from outside the campus.

Campus Infrastructure

CNRM Khajura has been operating from a building block provided by Janata Namuna Secondary School, Khajura. Three rented houses have also been used for a guest house, the principal's quarter, and a store room.

During the early stage of infrastructure development, the college relied on the school premises for water and toilet facilities. A tubewell was later bored to meet basic water requirements.

Planned basic facilities included:

The college has nine bigha of land enclosed by a barbed-wire fence. This land forms the site for the development of its permanent physical facilities.

For the proposed academic building, AFU adopted the architectural approach used for the College of Natural Resource Management, Puranchaur, Kaski. The architectural concept was retained while allowing structural changes according to site conditions.

Soil Investigation for the Academic Building

A soil investigation was completed as part of the structural preparation for the proposed academic building. Senior structural engineer and former DDG of DUDBC Dwarika Shrestha advised testing three boreholes to a depth of 12 metres each.

The investigation work was assigned to Sanjujain Geotech Firm Pvt. Ltd. Its purpose was to examine soil formation and obtain engineering parameters required for foundation design, including bearing capacity and other geotechnical properties.

The completed soil investigation provided technical information required for the structural design of the planned academic building.

Master Plan and Campus Development

A land-use master plan was prepared to organize the college's physical development. Since the permanent site began largely as open land, the planning process focused on arranging buildings and supporting infrastructure within a coordinated campus layout.

The process involved students, college staff, members of the local community, municipality representatives, agricultural scientists and experts, local intellectuals, dignitaries, and social workers. Reliance Engineering Solution Pvt. Ltd. provided technical input for the master plan.

A one-day workshop was held on 15th Aswin 2078 to collect feedback and suggestions. Participants included representatives of Khajura Rural Municipality, local social workers and intellectuals, agricultural scientists from agricultural offices, and representatives associated with NARC in Banke.

The master plan and soil investigation formed part of the preparation for developing the college's permanent physical infrastructure.
