Admission Requirements
The Centre for Buddhist Studies (CBS) at Rangjung Yeshe Institute, affiliated with Kathmandu University, offers a plethora of learning opportunities for local and international students. Our curriculum, designed to promote intellectual and spiritual growth, includes diverse degree programs, non-degree courses, and intensive language programs. Below is the eligibility criteria for our various programs.
Bachelor of Arts (BA) Program
To apply for the BA Program, you must have:
- A higher secondary school transcript (through grade 12)
- An English proficiency test score for non-native speakers. Accepted tests include TOEFL-iBT (minimum score 90), CEF/CERF/GeR level in English of B2, IELTS (minimum score 6.5).
Non-Credit Program
This program is open to high school graduates who wish to enrich their knowledge without pursuing formal credit. English proficiency is required for certain courses. The Non-Credit Program has two categories of eligibility:
- Those focusing on textual studies and language courses.
- Those interested in all types of courses, including Buddhist studies, who must demonstrate English proficiency.
Master of Arts (MA) Preparatory Program
The Preparatory Program requires:
- A higher secondary school transcript
- A Bachelor's degree with a CGPA of at least 3.0.
- An English proficiency test score for non-native speakers.
MA in Buddhist Studies and MA in Translation, Textual Interpretation, and Philology
These rigorous programs require a background in religious studies and language studies, a Bachelor's degree with a minimum CGPA of 3.0, and a high level of English proficiency.
Translator Training Program
This program requires at least one year of study in classical Tibetan and colloquial Tibetan and proficiency in English.
Summer Program
The Summer Program accepts high school graduates with a good command of English. Specific requirements apply for advanced courses.
Visiting Student Program
This program is open to students currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program at their home universities and who have completed their first year of studies. They must have a high level of English proficiency.
Research Affiliation
Affiliated researchers must hold at least a Master's degree and be researching a topic that aligns with CBS’s mission.
PhD Program
Prospective PhD students must hold a Masters Degree in a related discipline with a CGPA of 3.00 or above. Candidates must demonstrate strong English language skills and a relevant research proposal.
Online Learning
Online learning is available in various formats. For-credit courses require a higher secondary school transcript and English proficiency.
